Yeah, I understand what you're saying and agree somewhat. I still think because of HOW they deliver the songs (due to WHY they do- internally), that presents the song in a different way. But I agree that many people may think them as being the same... but subliminally people's ears will more than likely be drawn moreso to one than the other...
Also, I haven't seen the numbers lately, but I'd bet that Wild still has a Latin-heavy audience, while KMEL has a more black audience... for the reasons mentioned above.
Again, I don't program either station so these are just my opinions...
