Wild 94.9 and 106.1 KMEL

What is the difference between Wild 94.9 and 106.1 KMEL music?

1. Same ownership (Clear Channel)
2. Same Format (CHR-RHYTHMIC)
What's the difference?

just KMEL is a little bit more urban with r&b<P ID="signature">______________

I hear a lot of the same ads on both stations, and on Kiss-FM. Also, Clear Channel doesn't have to worry about any CHR-Rhythmic competitors. If they re-formatted 94.9, it's possible that another company would start a competing station. Hey...maybe Bonneville could do Hip-Hop on 95.7...

Their music is similar on the broad spectrum. They differ in that they play some of the same records, but for different reasons. Wild would play a Jay-Z track because he's a part of Urban culture... Wild plays the same song because it's a party track! Does that make sense? I agree that they are similar, but I think their difference is in WHY they play the music they do.

Yes, but in the average non radio-geek listener's mind, it's the same song. They may tune in for different reasons, of course. Someone not familiar with the two stations and their ownership would not think that deeply about why a song is played, just that it is on.. and maybe just moments after it was just on across the dial.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying and agree somewhat. I still think because of HOW they deliver the songs (due to WHY they do- internally), that presents the song in a different way. But I agree that many people may think them as being the same... but subliminally people's ears will more than likely be drawn moreso to one than the other...

Also, I haven't seen the numbers lately, but I'd bet that Wild still has a Latin-heavy audience, while KMEL has a more black audience... for the reasons mentioned above.

Again, I don't program either station so these are just my opinions...

Thanks for chiming in!

since we cant post numbers on here, suffice to say that 18-34, all across the dayparts, KMEL is smashing WILD, and is pretty much #1 in all dayparts, except morning show. But those are just the 18-34 numbers....
