Wild fights back against JSE fans

Just heard a liner that stated "no matter how bad you want us to go away, we will always still be here." Damn, that's the bottom line.

I guess the G-Rock fans were more dedicated to their music more than the JSE fans. If you want a station back, or for alternative to come back on the dial, complaining on facebook, planning meet-ups for protests and NOT show up and not calling other rock outlets to request more modern rock/alternative singles will not bring JSE or any rock alternative format back on the dial.

There's a protest this Saturday morning. I'm not going because I'll be going to Mega Jam in Long Island.

Is there a sample hour that anyone can post of what WJSE was playing before the plug was pulled? The actual mix could have a lot to do with it...

The OLD -JSE is not coming back. I would figure by now Atlantic is making too much and the format soon will start paying for itself. I would just give up. You don't think they would really just bring back the old format do you? This has not happened in years where a station says: "yeah there right, let's go back to the old format".

I am sure by now Atlantic's heart and soul is into making The Wild work. Besides look at all the contracts with different people to pay for things and get this started Atlantic had to sign!

This is another seashore resort radio group there are many up and down the coast. This is July...why would they change right in the middle of their season. Think about it?! I don't think so! I know how they feel right now, I have been there.

I have no issue with Wild, except maybe adjust the volume a bit on some songs they play. Makes me think I lose their stream when a Drake remix or Stereo Love is actually playing very low. I do realize JSE on the FM dial is done for, and to be honest, I'm surprised they didnt flip years ago.

I just checked out the link whit the playlist...They had better get a better handle of programming this station...some hours are almost all hip hop and some seem to have too many dance tracks that listeners , who aren't hard core dance fans , will not recognize. One hour had Stero Love, usher, Let the feelings AnnA Grace, Lasgo Alone and then Hey Hey Dennis F...one r one estblished artist in five songs UHHH not yet guys......another hour was almost pure hip hop...remix or not the programmers should not, in my opinion program this station like this....If I was listeing and heard all that Hip Hop in a row...Im OUT of there...plus I think the market needs to be introduced to the unknown tracks slowly not that many per hour...
That being said...I like it...just mix it up better.....This format would destroy in Philadelphia!!! I think Wired 96.5 should do this exact format!!! They would be top five within two books.

Name a market that has a successful alternative station. Name an alternative station that has been successful for a long period of time.

Successful: Top 10 in market 12+, Top 2 in target, Top 10 in mornings 12+, Top 2 in mornings target
Long period of time: 7 years or more

You can look back as far as a month. Scroll to the bottom and click on July 2

Aha, got it. And, frankly...it ain't so great. About as corporate as an "alternative" station can get.

That explains the turnout. Nobody loved the station - even though a lot of people might have "kinda liked" it.

I think the same would have happened to G-Rock if they'd pulled the plug before Terrie Carr came on board. But, as it turns out, Carr did *well* by the station, and that's why a couple hundred turned out on a mid-30's day in January chanting and holding signs.

People don't protest losing a station they "kinda like".

Now to see how Wild's promotions turn out...

Actually, AnnaGrace (one word, common mistake) has had success on the Hot 100 when she was Ian Van Dahl. Lasgo also had a Top 40 charting hit called "Something". So it's 3 established artists and 2 hits from Clubland. Maybe not something the average radio listener would know but something a station personality could educate the audience with.

They're planning a bigger protest this Saturday, so we'll see how that turns out. If Mega Jam weren't this weekend, I would have gone there because I like seeing people being vocal about a radio station. Obviously I wouldn't protest against a station I love, but I do want another station in that area flipping to alternative rock.

I've resisted to urge to comment on the WJSE flip until now... it took me a while to form an opinion, and I just didn't feel like getting in between all the bickering.

But I will say that even as an alternative rock fan, I find it hard to get anywhere near as worked up about this as I did over G-Rock. And I have a feeling that a lot of people are in the same mindset as I am for similar reasons, thus the lack of protest. For me, in all fairness, part of it may be that I'm outside the coverage area... but I can connect this to the big picture by noting that G-Rock had much bigger coverage. Also, as Sean already noted, WJSE's playlist wasn't nearly as unique or adventurous as G-Rock's, and they played some bands that G-Rock rightfully avoided in its latter days. Finally, there is at least some solace in the fact that WJSE was replaced with somewhat of a unique format. It's not the full-on dance station that some people might have hoped for, but at least it's providing something other than a run-of-the-mill CHR or AC format.

You have to be a account executive (salesmen) and go sell radio today to understand what goes on with selling alternative music format. This is not the favorite format to try to sell to a local merchant or a national buy if your not getting the highest ratings. Look at the ratings and see what gets the highest numbers on the Jersey Shore. The biggest demo are women in radio. The Wild is getting music lovers to turn the radio back on again and listen and turn off the Ipod with there own little radio station in their ears going.

The Wild will sell just just fine to women. This demo will make lots of cash, allot more then old 'JSE.

I don't think there is any turnin' back now.

Good luck with your distractions and annoyances....the more noise you make the more fame you bring to The Wild.
