WKTU can always modify its format from rhythmic to urban for adults to fill the shoes of a second urban AC in New York. It is a huge market, and it would not make any sense for the #1 radio market to be stuck with just one urban AC, so this would make sense to transition KTU. Besides, Clear Channel owns urban AC stations KHHT, WVAZ and WDAS in the Top 4 markets, so if WWPR can tackle WQHT then WKTU can tackle WBLS directly. KHHT tackles KJLH, WVAZ tackles WSRB and WDAS tackles WRNB. Think about it now.fmradio1 said:Don't forget about WKTU, which does cut into the Urban AC universe a bit with their format. It's possible that between Kiss, BLS, KTU, and the various AC's, there were too many stations targeting minority adult women. I can't see 105.1 joining that crowded field, especially with Hot 97 being in a precarious position and WKTU being their sister station. I think they stay the course and see what Emmis eventually does with 97.1...

I think when the May Abriton comes out sometime next month and it shows that WBLS doubles in its ratings with over a six share coming close to overtaking WLTW, don't be surprised if Clear Channel flips Power 105.1 to an Adult AC format.
radioguy39nj said:CC put Power on 105.1 to fragment Hot 97's audience enough to keep Lite-FM on top of the NY ratings. That strategy has worked. With Hot 97's future in doubt, CC would be wise to stay the course with Power 105.1. WWPR might soon be the only game in town for HipHop. If Hot 97 flips, CC will stand to inherit their listeners, who in that event would have nowhere else to go.![]()

When they tried Urban AC here in Albany, NY around 2004, it failed not due to poor demographics but due to poor programming (they still kept some of the smooth jazz imaging/formatics even after the tweak to Love FM)... it could have worked if they added some syndicated programming and taken cues from stations like BLS and Philadelphia's WDAS![]()
