I haven't listened to 105.1 in a while, as I have always considered them a harder version of 97.1. However, I think CC will stay the course and see if 97.1 throws in the towel at some point in the future.

Open for discussion.
I don't even live in New York City but I do listen to Power 105.1 and Hot 97 on my iPhone. I notice that Hot 97 does own the "hip hop" positioner 24/7. KKBT & KPWR in Los Angeles were the same way. The Beat played more R&B and Power 106 was hip hop (i.e. then Power 106 staples Ice Cube, WC, Kurupt all day). Power 105.1 knows that there is some good new R&B product this year. If they flip to urban ac that would be a shocker.JayD said:Power sounds better than Hot these days.. Hot seems to play harder Hip Hop (Rick Ross all day) while Power has more R&B in the mix...

Well, KISS-FM had more "heritage" years on Hot 97, and that didn't stop Emmis from giving it away. Hell, even the original CBS-FM had more heritage and look what happened.

it just proves money matter over heritage which is sad, look at wbcn and wfnx??
In 1994 Hot 97 became the station "Where Hip Hop Lives". From then on it dominated the New York airwaves and hit No. 1 a few times in the ratings. By the end of 1994 both WBLS and WRKS had settled on adult R&B. Power 105.1 didn't even exist. I'm live in LA but I know that Hot 97 is the most prominent hip hop/R&B station in New York but is the most controversial station in the radio industry because of the numerous gunfights in the lobby.TVCOOL said:It's not the 1990s anymore when one can listen to HOT 97.1 ,Kiss FM98.7 and/or WBLS 107.5 for their daily dosage of rap and urban ac.
I know where "Shot 97" originated from. I remember former Hot 97 afternoon DJ Wendy Williams started came up with that name but that's not important though. Power 105.1 does play more jams in the late night hours while Hot 97 you'll hear Drake within a 10 minute gap. Their slogan "New York's R&B and Only the Best Hip Hop" means the more R&B less hip hop. At the urban format, hip hop is on it's way out.Turnpike Tuner said:They don't call it "Shot 97" for nothin'....
