Questions:
1) First of all, did anyone record the flip?
2) Who will this affect most? I'm guessing River. River was playing Steely Dan over lunch today, a rather soft spin for River as of late. I think it's safe to say that Q100 will not be affected, except for competing for space in the prize closet.
3) What will be done with 97.9? If we stick to canned formats off the bird, I could see the following:
--Classic rock to compete with River
--Classic country to flank Kicks, especially if Kicks changes (see below)
--Soft AC
--Variety/adult hits, as long as it centered on the 80s/90s (no, not the same as Journey was).
4) According Allaccess.com, the "The Walk" branding will be "integrated" into Kicks. Not sure what that means (
http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/121652/98-9-the-walk-atlanta-flips-to-oldies ). Does this mean a Christian show? Kind of flies in the face with what Cumulus is doing nationally with NASH. Are significant changes coming to Kicks? That's about the only station that Cumulus hasn't touched in a while.
General comment: I like the music mix. Seems to span early 60s-early 80s, more older than newer. Heavier on the more obscure hits, and lighter on the obvious/burned-out stuff like Beatles/Beach Boys/Motown. Not afraid to touch 80s or disco. No overlap with classic rock. Sounds better than the last time we had TOC (not to mention the horrid engineering on 106.7)--diverse mix with no fear of turning into another Fox 97 "good times and eight oldies".
With that music mix, Cumulus could still shoehorn in an 80s/90s-centered adult/variety hits station on 97.9.
