Will AN106.7 carry Tech sports this year?

I was soo happy to have an all news station that said they would always be there bringing me news, weather and traffic but now with GA Tech sports i will have no one to rely on for traffic when i go to and leave work every single commute. All News should mean all news not football. We have seveal sports stations that could handle play by play. I hope its only football but every single saturday between 3 and 4pm when i go to work traffic seems to be a mess on the connector and now i have to try to catch traffic from wsb who will likely have a bulldog game at the time tech is playing. by providing 6 traffic reports "24/7" 106.7 is providing a great service for those of us without m-f 9-5 shedules but to throw coverage out the window for tech sports is crazy. Maybe they are stuck in a contract and once it expires then we will get the news format 24/7. Plus remember when tech is playing here traffic will be even more of a mess and WYAY can not provide the service when its needed most on Saturdays. I have been so impressed with pretty much the whole operation since the beginning and it has been there for my commutes and now to kill the format for GA tech for several hours a week is stupid.

I agree with you and others who have said that Tech games shouldn't be aired on AN106.7. My guess is (and I think at least one other person mentioned this) that they're only doing this because of a pre-existing contract and once that contract ends, they won't air any other sports or anything other than "all news 24/7".

It seems to me that Tech football is an excellent way to add revenue on the weekends. My guess is they will keep it if they have found a way to sell it.
How do all news operations do in terms of ratings, and more importantly, in terms of revenue on the weekends? I would guess the cumes are tiny - similar to radio cumes after 7PM.
I don't see how it makes an all news station "not pure" by running sports.....after all, sports is "news" too! What do they have to lose?

they do sports updates twice an hour and sports news is news but play by play isn't

The same thing that bugged me about 93.3 was that they stop music for preaching but 104.7 sticks with music every hour of everday. 970 does preaching and talk 24.7. Just like when 94.1 broke format an did jazz flavours in the evening.Just like 100.5 doesnt play rock in am drive or during braves games.

@Rick: I think the reason they do it is because it generates revenue. Radio listening goes down the dumper after 7PM. Most people turn on the TV and don't listen again until the next morning. I would guess most M-F listening is in-car and peaks during rush hour(s).
If your format has no teen appeal you are much better off programming for money vs (listeners who aren't going to listen anyway.)
You're probably right about play by play not really being news. But the news channels do it too.....Sean and Rachael are not news either.....they are there for entertainment and to generate ratings. Sports or blathering idiots - what's the difference?

WSB is a news/talk station so airing news along with talk programs fits the format. if "all news" means you carry sports playbyplay then change your name to news 106.7 with tech sports and make your format news/sports.

sometimes wsb says your news weather and bulldog station so they dont claim to be all of anything

This is especially true for formats that primarily target older adults (AC, news, talk, oldies, classic hits) vs. younger folks (urban, CHR, active rock, alt).

Sorry....was talking about Fox News channel on TV. I didn't make that clear.
You do make a good point about semantics though....if you're going to say "ALL" news 106.7 then maybe people are lead to expect news any time they tune in.
