Will CBS-FM sound like 98 WOGL?

I don't live in NYC, but have been a lifelong CBS-FM fan. I have been looking at 98.1 WOGL/Philadelphia's playlist (that a few said CBS-FM will sound like) and it doesn't look bad at all. Most is mid-late 60s (heavy) and early 70s. Sample from the 7-9am time period:

Monkees - Daydream Believer
Soul Survivors - Expressway
Zombies - Time of the Season
Elgins - Heaven Must Have Sent You
Bob Seger - Old Time Rock 'n Roll
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline
Rolling Stones - Jumpin' Jack Flash
Supremes - Back in my Arms
Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman
Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes of the Brokenhearted
Elton John - Crocodile Rock

If their playlist was like this, I know I certainly wouldn't complain.

Is this what we should be expecting from CBS-FM? 'OGL is more similar to the other CBS oldies stations (WODS, KXKL, KOOL, WOMC [to a certain extent], etc.) Or will it be more like the 'new' KFRC which is mostly 70s/80s?

Any thoughts??

OK... I'm familiar with the Marvin Gaye version... Even the one from Bonnie Pointer... But the Elgins? Is this a Philly-based band?

As you probably know Motown has always been big in Philly. The Elgins were a Motown group. They
recorded a few singles for Motown from 1965 to 1967, including "Heaven Must Have Sent You" (1966), written and by Holland-Dozier-Holland. Of course, Bonnie Pointer had huge hit with it in 1978.

say more eighties with seventies then sixties as the mix.

which would mean it's still Jack with a different name (clever!) and will get flushed FASTER than Jack, COUNT ON IT!
(and 80s fans won't come out of the woodwork, trust me,if that were the case Jack wouldn't be leaving town)

it has transformed into a bigger hit than whatever ten songs were in front of it because it's become a mainstay/floorfiller at dance clubs/parties/ weddings.etc through the decades, regardless of what Billboard sez; charts were just good for cleaning one's butt with at the end of the day, really.
and finding a good oldies station is like finding a needle in a haystack, what I say,child..

Right...it's a hit 'cause some club jock or wedding DJ plays it. I forgot how important they are. And don't forget Muzak too. I heard it play in the sunglasses store at the mall last week. ;)

Even if no one else picked up on that, yes, that was a great hit in the Philly area by The Velvelettes, who also recorded a great tune called "He Was Really Sayin' Something."

good catch;
and yes, a universal club/party/affairs record is more reactive to someone trapped in traffic than a bryan adams snore fest that got payolaed it's way to #1 in the 80s/90s; nobody wanted to hear that **** eVEN THEN! ...lol

WOGL is strange. Management there will tell you that they only play national hits because "people have moved in and out of the city over the past 40 years and many people who appreciated regional Philly hits back then are gone and the new comers can't relate to those hits."

However, they still throw in tunes like that Elgins song you mentioned in their regular rotation but leave out Philly hits like "Breaking Down The Walls of Heartache" by The Bandwagon which was a huge hit in Philly a long time ago.

Makes no sense. WOGL, either play many Philly hits or stick to the rhetoric that I have in quotes above.

Reactive...that the stuck in traffic listener hears that synth drum start on Bonnie, scratches his head, asks what the hell song is that, and quickly tunes to another station.

Much as I love Bonnie, it's better a song that payola's its way to No. 1, than one that could only payola its way to No. 11. I was in the music director's office, they tried. They really tried. Pleasant memories of the day she stopped by the station. ;)

But, perhaps, we should just agree to disagree.

Personally, I have always liked the Elgins song. Great dance record.

i don't know where you come from, i'm talking about new york, where that track has been a 'must' at wktu since they signed on...

Fine. Dandy. Huge hit. A must. Columnists for Long Island weeklies, WKTU and all good party DJs everywhere are now the sole arbiters of what is a hit. Screw the Beatles. Screw Elvis. The Pope sings "Heaven Must Have Sent You" in his confessional. Hillary Clinton sings "Heaven Must Have Sent You" when she comes. Barry Bonds juices to "Heaven Must Have Sent You." "Heaven Must Have Sent You" dominates the musical world. And all without payola. Enough. Thank you. You win. Cheers.

where did you come from , having just signed in yesterday? are you a CBS radio exec attempting pre-damage control(or just a trol?)

Since most of radio listening is not in the car, what is the point here?

that got payolaed it's way to #1 in the 80s/90s; nobody wanted to hear that **** eVEN THEN! ...lol

You have proof? Or you are just saying that because you do not like the song, it must be bad? Otherwise, you are making accusations about a federal crime...

Just a good ole boy having fun. And you make such an easy playpal. ;)

oh, okay, I take it back, there's no paid for airplay at hit radio........

"Pay for Play" is not the same as payola.

And most PDs like their job too much to take payola.
