Will KDWN move or will new owners move in

Since it is my belief that KDWN has never paid rent to the Plaza.would Beasley get the same arrangment mentioning the Plaza in top and bottom IDs or would they move KDWN to their current locale.or could they stay by mentioning the Plaza on all 4 stations to sweeten their no rent status?

Have you ever seen the Studios at the Plaza?. Well I stayed there a few times, and followed this dirty carpet which took me by their Office in a seedy part of the Plaza, if you can believe that?. When you run a cluster, rent or space should not be a terrible problem.

> Having been there the first day KDWN went on the air...the studios were by the Martini shaped pool. One way glass so the announcers could see out and no one could see in!!! Was great when the gals would go poolside topless!!! The studios were built from ground up and they had state of the art equipment. Some of the very best announcers were hired and "The New Baby in Town" was on the air. Charlie Scott saw that the station was run smooth and clean as possible. Where else could Union Plaza get such advertising across the country and beyond? Charlie left KDWN as quietly as he arrived and went on to make KMAK in Fresno California, the #1 Country Station for many years. Sadly, Charlie passed away last year, just three months before AJ Williams. But for those of yu that remember...."Have a good night, that's what Vegas is all about"!

Listen, I know this was your first post, but...

You are required to at least say something in your reply, not just repost the post?. But only if you get to see this ugly part of the "World Famous" Plaza where KDWN is, I doubt they had too many visitors there? Johnny Magnus, L.A. Radio legend and Music of Your Life Personality told me he once had the KDWN General Manager by the throat with his head out a second story window. Radio can do that to you. Vegas, "What happens here stays here"!

The only GM was a woman, so Johnny Magnus did what?
Oh and Williams, the owner-I doubt the story was true.

Johnny Magnus

The only GM in the last 35 Years since the Mag worked there?. Perhaps it was the GSM?. He told me the story, and I had no reason to doubt him.

How KDWN got its call letters; who actually put them on the air, who were the jocks that started with KDWN,who worked their tails off building the site and transitter? NO?..I'm not surprised. My thinking is, you only know what you've heard in the past 26 years. There were people that BELIVED that the "flamblower" was going to take Vegas by storm, and they did in the beginning. Suddenly a "NEW" person came on board and it went to hell in a hand basket. Johnny, we know who that was.The same person that you wanted to strangle!!!

OK, KDWN went on the air in April of 75'..not to be a stickler, but 35 years and 2006 doesn't doesn't jive. If I'm not mistaken, it was April 4th, 1975!
Doesn't really matter come to think of it, but I know who Johnny was talking about, SHE didn't "TAKE OVER" KDWN till 76', sometime around Oct or Nov.
Williams the owner knew damned well it was true!

OK 30 years ago then!. It was 23 years ago that he told me this story...

Johnny even took his "Weather with a Beat" to Las Vegas.

So who pray tell was this evil sales manager/GM?
Because I know that Claire was pretty evil as well.

I recall that KDWN started as a music
station and had some great numbers.

Don't know how the hell it happened but one day she was in LA and the next she was GM of KDWN.
Great numbers is an under statement....for a brand spanking new station? The mighty city of Parump she appreciated the station. They held a big picnic BBQ in their honor to raise money for the first ambulance in the town! The day of...there was a convey over a mile long heading up the road to the BBQ! They just don't make radio like that any more....anywhere.

So how long until the keys actually get turned over to Beasley. And will they can everyone and just run the station off the bird when they upgrade the equipment?

Awaiting FCC approval. Usually takes 60 days or so. I think they said they'd close in the third quarter. Speculation is that they'll do Adult Standards. They could also do talk and take on the always lame KXNT, but that would require more effort.

Thanks for explaining it all to us. You must be
the guy doing perceptuals for the company.

No, Iwas just repeating what I read in the newspaper.

LF

I didn't say that either. I was just passing along what was printed for those who may have missed it. Beasley may be planning an all-polka format for all I know.
