Due to the night directional patter, the transmitter has to be almost due east or east by NE of Las vegas, as the station protects WGN in chicago at night.

Plenty of stations have moved farther out of town to sell transmitter land. With 50 kw, KDWN can probably rebuild a few miles away and still put a very decent day and night signal over the market.

Re: kdwn transmitter land worth 11 mil..move?

If they move it/change it the FCC rules will make them protect all the other 720 stations that have come on or are proposed *new* after KDWN was first licensed to the present interference levels. Not grandfathered.

Any of the other 720 stations that recieve 50% (RSS) or more of their night time interference from KDWN, KDWN will have to reduce by 10% their signal to that station. Been there.

CFR 73.182(q)1

"...Changes proposed by Class A and B stations shall be required to comply with the following restrictions. Those interferers that contribute to another station's RSS using the 50% exclusion method are required to either reduce their contributions to that RSS by 10%, or to a level at which their contributions no longer enter into the 50% RSS value, whichever is the lesser amount of reduction."

Also they cannot increase their 10% RSS interference contribution to any other station.
I would say that most of the other stations in the west have KDWN as the greater than 50% contributer to their night time interference. Big mess and power reduction for KDWN to move.

Re: kdwn transmitter land worth 11 mil..move?

It's not worth the effort to move the transmitter. That signal is one of the best, why chance it?

They could put a shopping mall right on top of it, just like WSB-AM did in Atlanta.
