Will KROQ tweak its format?

If the high 1's continue I'm pretty sure KROQ will have to make some hard decisions. I still think going after kEarth is a good idea what does everyone else think?

If they do, Kevin Weatherly will get fired, because KRTH and KROQ are owned by the same company.

A lot of the people working at KROQ are also involved with Live 105 in SF, and it's doing better than KROQ.

How about KLOS?
Klos is a aor format

They report to Mediabase as Classic Rock. They play Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, The Who, The Beatles, and typical classic rock stuff.
How many AOR stations (using the 70's definition) are there today? What we have is mostly Classic Rock, with a few of them playing limited currents, right?

Kevin has not done a spectacular job with kroq. I'll give him till the end of the year then I'll fire him if shares don't improve

The top management knows that fixing a station as broken as KROQ is, like the song, an "Impossible Dream" so they likely gave him considerable time and latitude to get things done.

The diary's will be out either Monday or The following week. We will see how well kroq is doing then.
The monthly is out tomorrow at noon.

But, as radiofan said, It is a PPM market. No diaries in last 16 years.

Kevin seems afraid to tap into KROQ's heritage by showcasing the artists and personalities that propelled the station to fame.

I think he is leaning too heavily on music from the past 20 years (excluding the occasional special themed weekend).

I would like to see a bit more in the way of guitar-driven rock in rotation, too. KROQ played a lot of heavier artists from the mid 90s to mid 00s. I'm not suggesting they go *that* heavy, but it does seem to me that would be a way to make the station stand out more from KYSR.

In closing, the current morning show lacks compelling content. It is barely better than the old Cane and Corey show that aired in New York on 92.3. I suspect Kevin Klein's contract won't be renewed once it expires or he'll be shuttled to another station in a different city.

There’s nothing more Audacy can do for 106.7. They’ve tried everything. Anything they could do on that signal has potential to eat away listeners from other signals. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t switch kroq to the stronger 97.1 signal and move knx to 106.7, so kroq’s could actually compete with 98.7. But, I’m starting to get a gut feeling knx is only on 97.1 until audacy figures out what they really want to do with 97.1

When did Klos start playing currents?

Shortly after Meruelo Media took ownership of the station, so sometime in second half of 2019 I want to say. They plays perhaps a handful of currents or recurrents daily.

Even though KLOS plays mostly old music, it's a station that takes chances - which is something I can appreciate.

I think KNX will stay at 97.1 for good.

In the case of KROQ, a great signal wouldn't do much to mitigate mediocre on-air content. Plenty of stations out there with great signals with ho-hum ratings.
