Will KROQ tweak its format?

If the high 1's continue I'm pretty sure KROQ will have to make some hard decisions. I still think going after kEarth is a good idea what does everyone else think?

Nope will be a horrible idea and will never happen I bet my life. You already have plenty of competition for krth...you have kost which plays a lot of 80s and ya got jack which plays a fair amount of 80s so 106.7 flipping to go up against krth would be an epic failure and never get any numbers!!!

They might try Classic Rock instead to compete with KLOS… IHeartMedia in Seattle has an Adult Hits, Classic Hits, and Classic Rock station on their portfolio so they might do that.

Won't ever happen. If you remember when 100.3 the sound went away that didn't really help klos. Kroq is still doing better than they were with Mike Kaplan as PD.

Before Loveline wound down, Klein cohosted for a week, I think as a tryout for being the show’s new cohost. I didn’t find him entertaining back then (though he wasn’t as annoying as Stryker was).

Going for straight-up Classic Alternative, focused primarily on the '90s, seems like the logical choice to me. This is a market with two Alternative stations, and KROQ is the heritage station. Let KYSR chase the younger end of the Alternative audience.

One more time:

NOBODY makes decisions based on the 6+ numbers.

It's the demos (in this case, 18-34 and 18-49) that matter.

One thing matters more than the demos. Revenue. If a station is making money with bad ratings, trying something new to fix the ratings could jeopardize the money.

Not many markets are setting the world on fire with classic alternative and there numbers. 99x is doing the best which begs the question is there a viable market for classic alternative?

Part of what has helped 99X is bringing back a lot of heritage talent. That's a harder thing to do with KROQ.

Truth but I did hear Tami Heidi hosting there classic alternative show a week ago Sunday. Nice to hear her doing the rock format. Usually I hear her on the SOUL OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA the wave.

Also on 99x one of the current people voicing 99x is Brian Christopher whom use to be the voice of KLOS till they got bought 5 or 6 years ago or so.

There are two voiceover artists with that name; KLOS used the other one (who back in the day used to be a DJ at Rock 105.3 in San Diego).

They sound nothing alike.

The funny thing is - the one KLOS used also was one of several V/O artists used by KROQ some 20 years ago.

All I know he is the same Brian Christopher that use to work in radio in my town of Louisville ky a long time ago.

And neither is the late Brian Christopher, a professional wrestler whose actual name was Brian Christopher Lawler. He was the son of the famous Jerry "The King" Lawler.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were even more Brian Christophers in radio, given the prevalence of first and middle names as fallback air names.

KLOS definitely has had its own share of challenges over the past decade. The demise of 100.3 The Sound was the best thing to happen to KLOS. For quite a while, KSWD was even with or ahead of KLOS in-demo.

This is the most important point to me. KROQ has been getting beat by KYSR for years, even before Kevin Weatherly left the first time. KYSR has a very clear identity which starts with Woody. Until the KROQ crew figures out what to do with the 28th place morning show, it will continue to get clobbered. If Kevin had the magic touch, we probably would have seen it by now. Reality is the morning show solution is the biggest need of that station.

But THE WOODY SHOW is just what the station needed and not be programmed by Mike Kaplan. After he left and Lisa worden took over there numbers started to move. I think Kaplan held kysr back good thing he left. Then he started to mess with kroq. He is one reason of many kroq is struggling in the ratings.

I remember Woody saying he felt when they first came to LA in 2014 he felt Kevin and Bean were vulnerable cause they started to sound stale.

There are many ways to do "stationality." It doesn't always have to be the same thing.

The #1 Spanish language station in LA has only one live personality show, mornings. But mornings under-perform the station by about 25%. So the assumption is that they might do better without a personality show in mornings, as they one they have is hurting them.

"Stationality" is not synonymous with talk-filled DJ shows. It is simply making sure the station identity is present, first, in all dayparts. It's about imaging, liners, service elements, formatics, and not necessarily live DJs.
