Will KTU be Movin' 103.5?

My Guess Will Be WNEW

The name may not have changed to "Movin," but the flip has been made. And yes, right now they sound pretty much like Mix 102.7.

Maybe we should call it "Movin' 102.7" instead of "Mix 102.7". That would be a great idea. KTU is not going to become "Movin'", WNEW is going to happen soon.

WKTU's format is already a movin' format. It just doesn't use the moniker. They beat WNEW to the punch.

I don't know how you can say that. Look at their current play list compared with last month.
KTU now plays alot more pop/CHR tunes in addition to the gold they've been playing the last few years.
They play NO current dance anymore, they've gotten rid of the top 8 at 8, etc...
The current format is Rhythmic ac not dance.
Agreed, KTU is now as CC wants it. The Movin' without the name!

What is Dance anymore? Honestly... Most everything of what they play was at one point considered a dance hit. As for saying its "Movin" no argument there! I've been calling "Movin" the KTU in a box for MONTHS... since the spring/summer when I helped program a Rhythmic A/C station... I myself am not a fan of a lot of the current "dance" songs and I use that term loosely. Beyond Cascada, which KTU does play, I can't think of any current mainstream artist... and her pop versions are killing on CHR! Its hard to base any format on something that isn't recognizable and what is recognizable to the public is this variety of very popular upbeat songs from all times.

But it's a catch 22...how can something be recognizeable if the cartel of radio station owners that control the airwaves don't air it? Where they do exist, stations like Party 105 and the dance station in Seattle have pretty loyal followings despite signal shortcomings and other challenges.

Also, by your logic, since what is aired on KTU or Mix used to be a dance hit...then an oldies station can also be considered a hit music station, since everything they played was once popular hit music.

Well seeing as CHR or Top 40 Radio is based shockingly enough around the present Top 40, it'd be a little harder sell of an argument. However, having two Oldies stations within our clusters, I can tell you that we approach delivery as a CHR does. Your delivery is upbeat and of its time, you want to recreate the scene and the memories for the listener of them and Bandstand and yes being Top 40 of it's day! I think most Oldies stations recognize their stations are nothing but the WHO'S WHO of PAST TOP 40's!

I go out plenty of nights and hear very little current dance music being played, most of the currents I hear are really only upbeat pop songs... so its fairly easy to envision a station like KTU playing a variety of era's of dance and upbeat pop songs and calling itself a dance station.

...but it's not really dance in the true sense of the word and what is typically referred to as dance which is current "dance" music.
Even KTU themselves before the tweak had to make their own definition of dance to say they were a dance station. They used to call it the "KTU definition of dance". Since they've now cut out all "dance", we no longer hear it.
They are now rhythmic ac...bottom line. While I have nothing against rhythmic ac's New York doesn't need 2 of them and KTU is playing this game to protect it's sister stations at the cost of the listeners.
Not enough variety on the NY. airwaves!

Has anyone Listened much to KTU the last few days?

They still seem to be tweaking the format. They have Started to shift back to More "new" or "not as old" Music as they have been playing the Previous Week. They Are Playing song from like 2-5 years ago and less Music from 10-20 years ago.

The R&R playlist Shows this as well. All these went from 0 Spins to 12-15 spins this week Not Much "Dance" with these though

SHAGGY FEATURING RICARDO, IT WASN'T ME
GWEN STEFANI, HOLLABACK GIRL
JENNIFER LOPEZ FEATURING, ALL I HAVE
USHER, U GOT IT BAD

What is Going in the World of CC NY?

WOW...those songs definetly don't fit the traditional KTU format! Unless they were dance remixes

Who knows what they're doing. Look at the playlist as of 10/8, 6:00pm.
Looks like they're going up against their own...LITE fm now.
I know I'm biast because I hate ac music but in CC's convoluted chess game to protect their other players, programming KTU this way makes it about as interesting as WFME.
They are doing a serious diservice to NYC. listeners. We have 3 full power fm city stations spinning Donna Summer all at once.

Most of these songs have been played on KTU over the years...that's not really what's new. I think the percentage of this types of songs has shot way up though. I think I even heard Human League on KTU the other day. Now they're even sharing songs with PLJ and Jack FM...sheesh.

I'm actually not sure that they've added more gold into rotation as much as they've added current pop and some less dance oriented tracks. What's interesting is that they seem to be adding songs that their sister station LITE fm plays. I don't pretend to do more than speculate on what CC's reasoning is behind the way they program KTU but I really have to wonder if they are also simply making educated guesses as to what might pull in more money and numbers.

Remember how BLINK, 102.7 was a laughing stock several years ago..?
WKTU, Oct. 2006, no better!

On second thought, at least BLINK was creative!

I havent turned on KTU in weeks. Its sound just bores me to pieces.

In other news: This weeks top 10 albums charts - only 3 were hip hop. Hip Hop is suffering these days with all the bad music thats been coming out. A dance station or a rock station could capitalize, if we had either. Guess Z 100 will benefit from all this.

They're still doing a lot of mixing and mashing at night... its not like they're just playing old album cuts straight and playing the A/C game.

KTU's sound bores me too but I check the playlist because I'm interested in this whole ploy CC has going in NYC. The typical KTU listener who used to listen to the station for currents would probably end up going to Z100 at this point and I think that may be the whole reason behind their format to rhythmic ac. CC is trying to protect Z100 and LITE fm and tweaks KTU in order to do so. I don't think CC is interested in making KTU a great station, moreover it uses it to keep their star players at no. 1.

Maybe CC is stockpiling KTU with Lite music in preparation of Lite going all-Christmas?

That's actually a good point although I'm sure that's not the reason for their switch to rhythmic ac. There are however alot of non Christians in NYC. who listen to LITE. I have wondered in the past where they go during the time LITE goes all Xmas.

Hey maybe KTU will have a Movin' Christmas format. I heard Donna Summer and the Bee Gees are making a Christmas album together and Whoopie Goldberg will be doing back up.
