CC owns KFYI. Savage's show is owned by Citadel, I think. Beck's is owned by Premiere, a division of CC. If Rush Radio lands on 95.5, Beck will be there. Why would CC flip 95.5 to Rush Radio and leave Beck on their main competitor?
Why have they spent years putting Beck on every other yakker in town? Why did they put Beck on KT'R at essentially the same moment that 92.3 cleared the decks of their last AM vestiges and went after KFYI with everything it had? Because, in Phoenix, CC is convinced that Beck is and always will be, at best, second tier programming. Something you air so you don't have to run yesterday afternoon's Rusty Humphries in mid-mornings or something.
Now, granted, most of us can see how wrong that is. TMISLC appear to see how wrong that is; they haven't spent the past three years building their entire station around the show for nothing. And maybe CC is able to bill better with their current "seamless" lineup of Rush and his proteges that they think they could by introducing someone who's more than a bit of a Rush-apostate creating rancor and disharmony in the full-power line-up (something they obviously aren't worried about with Weiner and the twelve listeners in the station's nighttime pattern).
Or maybe they like the idea of just signing a contract and letting the money roll in without having to hustle local advertisers.
