Will Magic or The Beat be gone by years end?

Magic is kinda just there getting it handed to them by WDVD and WNIC, The beat isnt a bad gimmick but that station I think is going to have a short shelf life.

Might 105.1fm go Talk radio by years end or might 106.7 Become ESPN radio?

Both of these possibilities make me sad. As much I have felt that Detroit has too many AC stations (96.3, 100.3, and 105.1), I would much rather see 105.1 continue to be an AC station than it switch to something like talk or sports. I don't like FM stations that are completely devoted to sports. That happened to a couple stations here in Grand Rapids, and I hate it.

As far as 106.7 is concerned, I really like it and hope it sticks around. I just started a new topic about how it seems like that station is moving away from a dance format and moving toward a Top 40 station. :'(

I don't know about Magic 105.1, but unfortunatly I would think 106.7 The Beat would be leaving in a year or so, ratings seem even worse compared to when they were 106.7 The Fox. I would say they might flip to rock or hot AC, they already have WDFN so they can't be sports.

I don't know about you guys, but I have some problem's with WDTW's signal. I live in Royal Oak, Ferndale and it's very weak compared to ther channels like 955 987 or 963 for example. Maybe that's the reason it's not doing well

Its very possible that 106.7 THE BEAT will be gone by years end, but Magic 105.1 I think thers a very slight chance.

CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WKTU/NEW YORK morning star PAUL "CUBBY" BRYANT will now be simultaneously heard on CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WDTW (106.7 THE BEAT)/DETROIT.

He also can be heard on WMIA/MIAMI and KSYU/ALBUQUERQUE.

The likely reason is because you are a stone's throw away from 105.9 WDMK's transmitter. 104.3 with its 190,000 watts from near the I-696 / I-75 junction is likely wreaking havoc, too. I live about 4 miles away from WOMC's tower, and on my clock radio they bleed over 105.1, 105.9 and 106.7 if I do not have it positioned just right.

I am completely unable to pick up 106.7 cleanly at my office in Southfield. Instead, I get bleedover from 3 or 4 other stations simulatenously when tuned to 106.7, two of which are WKQI and WDMK.

The WKQI tower is the shorter tower right next to WDMK's tower (also used by Doug-FM). Both are just south of 10 Mile and Greenfield.

WDVD's tower is about 2 miles to the southeast along the north side of 8 Mile.

WVMV's tower is located in the west side of Detroit, near Davison and Livernois. Although farther away, there are no major sources of interference in your backyard, either.

So, I think your argument has some merit. 106.7's signal -- based on my own experience -- is awful in Southfield's civic center area where there are thousands of office workers. The far nothern suburbs, meanwhile, might simply be too far away to get great reception indoors.

Having their stick in downtown Detroit wasn't much of a deterrent with Country, because their signal Downriver, across Wayne County, and places such as Roseville was smokin'. They would fare better if their tower was closer to the 696 corridor.

106.7's signal also sucks near U-M Central Campus and downtown Ann Arbor thanks to interference from WQKL.

Oh, if 106.7 The Beat doesn't survive, I predict the next format will be "Gen X Radio."

I would love a station similar to WRFF in Philly or even WEBN in Cincy for 106.7, but I just don't see a reason for CC to take on WRIF or 89X since those stations don't compete too heavily with its existing brands.

Change the Magic back to the Groove... were missing GREAT R&B Soul sounds of the 60's, 70's & 80's. Maybe sprinkle in a very small amount of 90's.... but bring the Groove Back!!!
