it's a board for all radio stations,

You're absolutely right, it's indeed a board for all *radio stations*, but that doesn't necessarily include *quasi-radio stations* like Pulse, so there!

MarcR buddy, how the heck are ya! ;D You never did answer my question on the other board but I digress....

What was it you asked me on the NYRMB (if you can summarize it in a sentence or two)?

In my humble opinion; I think Pulse needs to establish it self before it can try to be a trend setter/hit maker or be the resurrect-er of freestyle. A specialty show is totally different i.e., Judy Torres' show. Just look at how many people wanted dance all the time, faithfully listening to KTU's dance factory saying they want more, now they have more but everyone is whinning!!! It's like a baby learning to walk, first crawl then stand then walk then run, ever see a kid try to run before they have walking down. Same theory applies with Pulse. back in the 80's before Z100 was a hit maker they had to establish themselves by playing the hits it wasn't till they has established themselves that they started to make songs hits.

From what I recall, it was about having a bad experience in clubs.....wondering how that environment really affected you in terms of coming off with a negative experience regarding dance music overall.

Ok, ok, I know I was the one to intiate this thread but even I am realizing that I might have spoken too hastily :) ... However I do hope Pulse starts their ad campaign around the city that they touched on a few times at one point. I think that will be very exciting to see. Does anyone know about when that's going to start and how? Tony, any input? :)

yes the ratings went up, but KTU was too broad with their music. They were playing a lot of disco tracks. There were too many decades on that station. There target demo even back then was 25-54. The new music doesnt fit the older generation

I don't know any "young" dance fans... everyone I know who likes dance is like 28-50 years old. All the young people I know like pop, r&b and hip hop tracks... it's hard to cater to a crowd that right now is so limited.

That's why I think Pulse is doing a good thing by having some R&B, pop and hip-hop (the fun stuff). If it can get that crowd to open up to dance, then the scene improves for everyone. Actually, if you go to my coalition page, you'll definitely find dance fans under 28...one member is 15! Just a matter of time for things to kick in. :)

Go to Beatstock. The whole lawn is filled with them a younger demo. Again that was a big problem with KTU. Who are you catering too? Donna Summer belongs on an oldies station or a specialty show on a dance station.

Go to South Beach next week (March 25-29) for the WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE (wintermusicconference.com). Thousands of 20 somethings. A lot of them from New York and New Jersey,

Over 50,000 people attended Ultra Music Festival last year. It runs for 2 days, definitely isnt cheap, and is well known for its energetic crowds. It's one of the most successful dance events in the world, and usually occurs during the last couple of days of the WMC.

I've been to beatstock plenty of times, sometimes both shows... but read what I said... "I DON'T KNOW ANY"... I didn't say there isn't any, I just said it was limited. 3,000 young people who go to hang and get drunk on the lawn is hardly a big turnout considering there is what 7-million people aged 15-30 in the NY metro area.

ktu has ALWAYS played a diverse mix of dance music, at various times they've leaned more one way or another, but through all the changes in the scene, competition, and such, they're fairly consistant number wise...

Thanks CHRless. I was about to write the same thing. Thousands of dance fans. Not 50,000 DJs, club promoters and indie label reps. Im heading down on Tuesday with my crew. They are cops, bankers, etc. Also, meeting friends flying into Miami from London. Flights from LaGauradia and Newark to Fort Laurderdale are still selling from $79-$99 One Way (jetblue.com). Hotels my be a problem because they are packed and expensive.Cant wait to get drunk and party all week long.

As far as hotels go, if you're looking for more affordable ones you'll need to try some of the suburbs west of the city, or north between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. They're not going to be cheap, but the ones on the beach will be ridiculously priced (more power to the hotels if there's such a big demand for them). The upside to getting a hotel on the beach of course is that you dont have to fight traffic when trying to head to some of the parties and shops.
Have a great and safe time down there. Let me know about some of the songs you heard and DJs you went to check out and see 8)
