Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

It's a fair question considering the emphasis placed on the Imus controversy by Rev. Al Sharpton. It becomes a question of HYPOCRISY of the highest order if Rev. Sharpton continues his synidcation agreement with a broadcast company that is guilty of "broadcasting" the same offensive lyrics constantly on many of it's "urban" and "hip hop" formatted radio stations.

Alfred Liggins and Al Sharpton should have their feet held to the fire just like Imus. Here's one example. Following are the lyrics for "Rock Yo Hips" which is currently the #1 Song played by WHHH (RADIO ONE) in Atlanta, GA... http://www.hot963.com/playlist.asp

Offensive? You be the judge...

Rock Yo Hips lyrics
by Crime Mob
(feat. Lil Scrappy)

Lil J on the track

You already know
It's ya boy lil' scrappy

I like it when she
Rock her hips then wave and sip
She rock her hips then wave and sip
She rock her hips
She rock her hips
She rock her hips then
Wave and sip

Look at them hips, I like how she rock it
She bend that thing ova and to the ground
She be dropping and popping hard as she can,
Got me hard in the pants
Because she all in her stash,
Doing her motherf***ing dance man
Look, lil' buddy cute in the face
She rock her hips to the bass
She take a sip when she wave
And wanna get wit Lil'J
After she dance on that pole
I pull my cash so quick and fast
When that ass hit the floor

Now I got 32 flavors of that bootylious bubblegum
Raspberry, grape, cherry,
Come and get this honey bun
Yummy-yum baby, not your ordinary lady
Known to drive the ni**as crazy
Willy Wonka wanna pay me
On the daily
Off the hizzle
rock my hips
Shake my skittle
Soda popping, watch it sizzle
Man this ------ right here the shizzle
Smoking on the hottest drizzle
Wanna taste it just a little
Rock my hips and make it wiggle
Wave and sipping in this bizzle

[Chorus 2x]

I like it when she show me she can
Rock it, roll it, drop it to the floor
Boucin' slow
Shorty's all pro
That's the way to go
Jello booty ooo-wee
Got a ni**a glacin' every time that - react
"I thought I saw a putty cat"
Gimme, gimme, gimme that
Fat cat, don't act on a pimp
You got me enticed by the way you rock them hips
You's a trip, girl, doing all them tricks
That's what's up
I like that sh** a lot, come holla at a thug

A-towns finest I'm the top notch glamour chick
Tell me if I throw it at you baby
Can you handle it
'Cause the cause is Russian
If a hater wanna run they lip
Step up in the club and have them whispering
God-damn she thick
Take it to the bar
Hypnotic, and Hennessey is on my list
Seductively, moving my body
Now watch me rock my hips
Take a sip of that goose
I'm looking good and living lavish
Big boy pimping pop and dippin'
Now tell me I'm not the baddest

I walk in the club and she wobbling and shaking
I wanna take to the house
So a player start breaking in
Her motherf***ing back like a player suppose
Goddamn lil' buddy touch your toes
Goddamn lil' buddy, take off your clothes
And let me see that apple bottom
And that brown booty

Shorty slide up and down on that pole,
V.I.P. that's how it motherf***ing goes

[Chorus 2x]

She rock her hips
She rock her hips
I like that way
She rock her hips
She rock her hips
I like the way
She rock her hips

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blac

Well let me try to reply to a very good but maybe a bit confused post. I am Black and agree 10000% that something has to be done about Rap Music. The sad part is that organizations like Inner City and Radio One (Both Black Owned) play this crap like it's the only music ever invented. Neo Soul is a wonderful format with some good positive music, but you will never hear it on the radio.

Now before this becomes a White vs Black Rap thing remember that the largest buyer of Rap music today would be White Kids.

Put some money in front of people and they will do anything then take that anything and sell it to young consumers. That is an issue we should all address.

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

If offensive songs are pulled, rhythmic top 40 and even mainstream top 40 will be left with about 5 songs on their playlists.

Black Eye Peas = Lets get Retarded in Here , O Im Sorry , Lets Get it Started in Here . O Crap ! Clean song have to change their words .

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

That makes my nappy "do" tighten up.

ashton kutcher is okay to talk about "Nappy" hair in the movie with bernie mac.

it's okay for the staff at WHHH to call each other "n"s and whitey a cracker.

when will we have a white AL Sharpton to right these wrongs? Wait, AL IS whitey too. Descended from the thurmond family, slave owners.

My family never owned slaves. I have been wronged. This is just wrong.

It's all POLITICS. The one with the most spin wins.

WHHH should play "white" music? What is that anyway?

That's kind of a no brainer considering 75% of the American population is White and only 12% is Black.

You could probably make that statement for any product.

Actually, WHHH used to when it was owned by a different owner.

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

How well is WHHH serving its city of license, Greenwood?

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blac

WHHH is licensed to Indianapolis, IN.

My nappy haired friend WHHH may be licensed to Indianapolis but "they" (not to be confused with those people) think it's licensed to "the hood".

Read posts on the Cincinatti Board and saw the comments that no one noticed this before Imus. Many noticed it.

Vince Fruge was a manager at WHHH who openly claimed in Radio Ink (if you want to look up the article) that he always replaced whitey with a brother to even racial wrongdoings of the past. This didn't seem to gain any racial concern from anyone. There is no such thing as "reverse discrimination" ...it's just discrimination.

The even white vs black ratio plummeted under Fruge and geniuses at the station resented having a white promotions director show up at remotes in the hood. So they made the promotions director change color. Fire, then hire someone else.

I like Amos brown but as a representative of Radio One Amos shouldn't speak for race relations and anything having to do with Imus until he works for someone else. Saw the piece on television.

Look at the great comments from rappers (not in songs) and air staff on WHHH.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??
This post is from a Radio One employee and I work at Hot 96-3. Why would we take any song off the air? This whole thing began because Imus said "nappy-headed...." and because of his comments Radio One should pull Crime Mob's - Rock Your Hips? Your kidding right? I mean when our demo (ladies 18-34) requests this song are they demeaning themselves??

C;mon-As Broadcasters should know-there is a line not to cross.

Don Imus (in my opinion) was trying to be funny by "trying to sound" like he belonged in the format. He (along with his sidekick or producer) sounded like idiots. I live the lifestyle of Hip-hop and I am not "African-American"-am I demeaning women because I play that song??

FOCUS ON WHY THIS WAS NATIONAL NEWS-Someone calling another race out on national TV and radio!!!

With all due respect..This post sounds like "Do As I Say, Not As I Do!" I am sorry, but hypocrisy is hypocisy is hypocisy.

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

With all due respect...

The music and the culutre has been around for over 35 yrs. In each music format there are questionable lyrics-I love Hip-hop from back in it's infancy, now it's a different type of music but to call this music "Offensive"-that's crazy.

As far as adding - neo-soul to the format. This city love it's South-Bounce Hip-hop.
There are variations to the music-the ladies love this so where is it offensive?

Re: Will RADIO ONE Continue to Broadcast "Offensive" Rap Lyrics that Demean blacks?

A few years ago in a national trade publication Radio One founder Catherine Hughes stated that she wants her pds and managers to be African American. It's her company so that's what she does.
