Will Smooth Jazz Return to NYC?

Emmis Communications, parent company of CD101.9 needs to wake up. I think part of the problem with the smooth jazz format on broadcast radio was the repetitive playlist. There is a ton of new smooth jazz. Artists abound. Many of them never were heard on the air. The internet is filled with excellent smooth jazz radio. I'm not familiar with the obstacles that restrict what is chosen to be played. I listened to CD101.9 from day 1 right up to the end. It seems the format was so constriced. As a smooth jazz fanatic, I know that this genre is filled with some of the best music on the planet. I know so many people who came up to me or called me and said: "What happened to CD101.9?" "What the hell did they do? "

Can anybody explain to me why smoothjazz over the airwaves did a fraction of the job that the internet smooth jazz stations do? The internet stations showcase new talent, do more creative programming and seem to change with the times. If you have any thoughts, please let me know.

If "Smooth Jazz" is such a dying format why is KIFM San Diego way up there in the ratings? Whenever I visit out there, I always tune it in..It's a great sounding station. They must be doing something right.. I felt bad when WQCD New York dropped the format, as I always tuned in when down there....maybe they should have called across the country to see what makes KIFM tick so well....
Of course, I was annoyed when it was dropped in Bangor Maine 5 years ago~!!

Just popping in here from Western NY... I'm from the area originally (left in 1989) and stop by this board every so often to catch up.

Jumping to the other coast, I was very disappointed when KKSF started mixing in too much "Top 40", so 'QCD wasn't alone.
I'd like to find reasonable Internet outlets for Smooth Jazz, and I'm open to suggestions, either here or via PM. I do listen to the stream of Magic 106.7 HD-2 out of Boston (WMJX) which is alright. The format hasn't been in place here in Rochester in years, since Clear Channel had it for a few months on their "revolving door" station (which is currently country to try to take a bite of the top FM outlet in the market, Entercom's WBEE).
I picked up on another thread the link to Clear Channel's generic SJ stream online (appears to be part of "iheartmusic.com"?), and hit it as the final notes of Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" faded out-- great song, one of my all time favorites from an all time favorite artist (as in, I own all of his original CDs), but NOT Smooth Jazz! Ditto for "I Keep Forgettin'" by Michael McDonald; good song, I know the words, but still not Smooth Jazz... The "now playing" song information isn't working for me as I type this either, but so far I think I've picked out Chris Botti and Marc Antoine.
With respect to the original question, I don't see a return of the format to NYC either, as much as I'd like it to be so.
