Will stations continue to voicetrack even when the economy picks up?

That's not true. WJIB has a commercial license, but owner Bob Bittner chooses not to air commercials, and instead asks for listener donations in an annual on-air fund drive.

The difference is that because a commercial station legally cannot qualify for non-profit status, listener donations to a commercial station are NOT tax-deductible, as they would be for a non-commercial non-profit station, and a commercial station fundraising must state that fact, as WJIB does.
