Will Tejano ever make it back to the FM dial ?????

Try Corpus. 4 Tejanos on FM - 93.5/104.9, 94.7, 98.3, 99.9, and 105.9 coming in from the "Brush Country" (San Diego). Sometimes 106.3 from Falfurrias comes in too.

Back to three. KBSO went Spanish Christian AC a couple of weeks ago. Claro Communications is supposed to fire up local Corpus Christi translator 94.3 K232DE soon with KUKA being the parent station. So for now, only Three station, but when 94.3 goes on the air, I guess you can officially say 4 stations again.

I thought 106.3 in Falfurrias was half Country and half Tejano?

For one i personally ,believe that much more can be done with KRTX 980 AM. For example : the addition of more current music, the playlist is old and stale, KXTN in San Antonio , and the ones down south sound so much better too. Ive tried requesting newer tejano hits, but they never make the list. The PD is just not updating the rotation.

Thanks for the update on KBSO, I need to check out 94.7, it has been awhile. I will look for the new KUKA translator, hope it comes in well on the South side of CC. I think KUKA is my favorite of all of the area Tejanos.

In unrelated CC news, KCCT-AM apparently has gone back to Talk from running the Americana programming

Mark

One more thing, 106.3 from Falfurrias is promoted on-air as Country and Tejano, but when I hear them, usually on a good FM reception night, they seem to be playing Tejano.

KUKA has comed a long way from the "Radio KUKA" it was a couple of years ago to "La Tejanita". They have the most unique Conjunto music you can't hear anywhere else in the World. I've tried looking for other stations that are similar, but the closest I got was KEDA-AM and XEG-AM (Yeah, they play Ruben Naranjo!). They are something!

I was wondering why KSAB and Oldies 93.9 were referring to KCCT News Talk a lot. I'm not familiar with the AM side of Corpus Christi (though I should).

Mhhh, everytime I listen, I hear Country music. Though they do claim to be Country and Tejano in their spots.

I swear I don't hear a difference. Neither should you.

The difference should be of an artist or two. But other than that, it is the same. I live in an area where both stations are listenable, and to tell you the truth, the only difference is the Night Show with Frank De Santiago. He plays in a lot of Cumbia and Reggeaton mixes. Other than that, the stations are twins.

1029 hd-2 is still kltn. i wish tejano was on kltn's hd-2, much better than kama's hd-2 but then again there is always a conflict on programming dept, its mainly about why kqbu went away. kltn has a mix of kqbu so thats why kqbu is gone, univision dont need two stations fighting for the same public. tejano always been here and to move it to kltn's hd-2 can be or will be a station where the numbers will be moving away from kltn to krtx. i dont beleive it will ever happen if it does, then it means kltn has given in.

to answer the first question, tejano is on FM, radio will inevtibly be HD and FM will cease to exist, in the way way future. why radio listerners dont want to purchase hd radios is beyond me, you will never go back to fm. of course there is still issues and tejano on kama hd-2 is not on the best signal coverage, so that is why i wish to have tejano on kltn hd-2.
Didn't you put KQBU (Que Buena) for a while on KLTN HD2, then switched to KLAT a couple of days later. For some odd reason, that only lasted for a week.

You know, something that puzzles me is that KPTY states their HD ID (KPTY HD) in their I.D. I'm assuming KPTY is HD bound as well?

yes and boy that was a mistake, i dont make the orders, i just take them. no sooner that kltn programming heard about it, bye bye, then klat bye bye, but hey, they cant say anything now, its kltn on kltn hd and hd2. and they probably would argue about that also LOL. i would have been happy with klat but it was short lived.

it seems that we compete more within the company than the competion, but then again, what competition? :D ok some competition

i need to check the id. i dont see kpty HD bound at all. unless budget totally changes and suprises comes out but today even more shocking news came down the conference call we had. an engineer of very high importance, who has many many years with company is no longer with the company, he resigned. i beleive its becomming a trend with univision.

Tejano is alive and well in other places . Tejano sounds so stale in Houston for some reason. KXTN in San Antonio sounds so much more lively , and so does the stations in Corpus Christi.

Tejano, where stations still exist, has become a mostly 35+ format, as there is essentially no new music and no new artists. Many stations, like KPSA in the Valley, are really regional Mexican now with a few Tejano songs in for spice. Except for Corpus and San Antonio and a couple of other small markets, there are no Tejano stations left.

Once again, I think it is the genre Tejano itself, not the stations that are boring. How can you expect them to be "exiting"? The stations in San Antonio and Corpus have gone to the measures to add Regional Mexican music to their playlists. All Tejano stations have added some type of Regional Mexican music. In this world, there is no longer a pure Tejano station. KRTX is the only station that comes close to Pure "Tejano". Maybe that is why you find it boring.

THANK YOU, TEJANO 980 IS A UNIQUE FORMAT. iT IS THE ONLY ONE STILL KICKING, WITHOUT ADDING A TWIST REGIONAL. IT SEEMS TO BE HOLDING UP, WHERE DOES IT STAND IN PPM ANYONE. I HAVE NOTICED NEW MUSIC, FROM VARIOUS ARTIST, SO NOT SURE WHAT SOME ARE SAYING THAT IT IS STALE. I EVEN GOT A HD RADIO AND LOVE IT. I KNOW I EVEN HEAR PHONE BITS FROM ACROSS THE NATION CALLING IN.

Dave can fill you up on that. I'm pretty shure it is way down in the ratings.

To a surprise, last I checked, I think this little station is doing far better than expected for a rimshot AM station. But what ever little number it has, it is not a lot for it to convince a company to go that direction. It can happen, but not likely. I think I have a better chance of hitting the lottery than a Tejano station popping up into an FM channel. The demographics for this genre are extremely old and it keeps getting older.

You know, it is funny how you say a Tejano station is coming sometime this year, but yet, you don't even have access to the PPM's. Quit spreading false rumors. You're full of it

In the last weekly KRTX had a 0.4 share and is tied in 36th place.

There are several large Texas markets that had Tejano FMs, but do not now. In all cases, there were declining numbers and ageing demographics. Just look where the Tejano Music Awards take place now vs. where they were presented in 1995!

Just think what kind of ratings can KRTX pull if the stick covered citywide and suburbs. In the ratings lately its been pulling a 0.1 share.

The ones that are sticking to the format are leaning Classic Tejano these days.
Even the once mighty KXTN in San Antonio plays its share of Little Joe and Mazz.
I'm sure if there was some exciting new Tejano product out there, they'd jump on it.
