Will the Track ever come back?

to answer the question NO! they need to BLOW THAT THING UP!
who knows IF anyone over there reads this blog, but here's you Focus Group, for what its worth of radio geeks.
there is at least 2 of EVERY format in town, that leaves_____________.

Nope. They're gone. If there was any chance of coming back they'd be saying something like "The Track will be back right after Christmas..." and they're not.

Lots of programming problems with The Track, but it's a shame there is now nobody in Indy playing much pop music from the 60s, 70s or 80s. Lots of great music from a wide era now not being played. If The Track would have been done right it could have worked: A wide variety of 80s and 90s based pop with some new titles AND more good live personalities, AND fun promotions and AND some marketing. Seems like they just threw on a few old Duran Duran songs, cut the staff down to the bone and hoped it would work.

I predict some kind of syndicated format. Possibly an oldies format with maybe a live, local morning show featuring one of the usual suspects. Again, given the situation, it'll be done on the cheap.

Wow... I can't believe they actually did it. Well, I can but I didn't want it to. I agree with badstevie, we need a good station that plays 80's and 90's pop.
Maybe they'll come back with a "Jack" format? It's cheap (no on air personalities) and it seems to work well in other markets. (Yes I know it didn't work out on 104.5 but surely it would be better than the track)

there has been alot of passion and more blog space devoted for another oldies station for Indy since the sale of KLU, by radio people(i don't think "regular people go here). having said that, BET the farm 107.9 is going to be the next "Classic Hits" station after christmas. but i offer this WARNING! they better HAVE at least mornings, middays & afternoons LIVE & LOCAL.

"WOW" is what really does say it for me. I predict they come back with Rhythmic AC syndicator WOW Radio Group. They already have the WOW Christmas on hand and will play it during the holiday season (it's a countdown type program). http://www.wowradiogroup.com/main.php

Just took a listen to the WOW demo and I like it. I'm a BIG fan of the late 90's old Hoosier Hot 96 sound and if they can bring that sound back, mix in a few currents and re-currents it's a hit. The key to WOW are Gold's. They are what makes stations a success I think. You can go anywhere and here today's music, but the Gold songs are the recognizable one and ones that we can sing along to. Familiar songs=TSL. The Track and Scott had the right idea, but didn't execute it the right way. NOU does a good retro lunch thing, but WOW sounds like it could work and with people meeters coming, it could do well in the TSL department. We'll see. Just my 2cents..and maybe that's all it is worth.

I say Motown-based Oldies - Mojo -[instead of pure Oldies] Susquehanna ran it in Cincinnati so Market Manager Skjodt is familar with the format. Also heard one of the top sellers from her staff there was jus hired by Entercom.

I least I think it would be fun to have this format to listen to! :D

My guess is say Hello to the 90's on 107.9 after Christmas. remember when the Bear went into Hibernation on 93.9 back in 2001 and it came back as an 80's Station aka Retro 93.9. I Think Gen-X like radio from louisville or the Sacremento Entercom owned the Buzz for 107.9 both are 90's based formats

well we need to keep a close eye on ZPL's playlist over the next 6 weeks to see if they dump the late 80's & 90's gold they still play for more currents. if the 90's disappear from ZPL the 90's have it for 107.9

heck theres been rumours in boston for a while especially since CBS radio started Sports talk on 98.5 fm that Entercom was gonna blow up their Mike FM station in favor of Putting WEEI on the FM Dial to compete with WBZ the Sports Hub.

And Why When the Track was a Combo Adult Hits/Rhythmic AC Station for Straight out Adult Hits. why stunt with Christmas music if you are just going to drop the RAC part of the AH/RAC format they were running. I Still think its gonna be 107.9 the Buzz or something like that with a 90's oldies format.

... Did Wheat tell the writer of the article that it is still a JACK format? Or does the guy have no clue?

Judging by the poor punctuation, grammar and syntax of the article itself, I would blame the writer rather than Wheat.

Christmas is not a "stunt" in the traditional sense. There will be dozens of stations all over the country -- and B105.7 is likely to be among them -- that will go all-Christmas for six weeks and then go back to "regularly scheduled programming," as it were. It's good for a ratings spike and is a strong short-term moneymaker.

A true stunt is meant to either run off the existing audience to clean the slate for the new format, get some chatter going so that people will continue to flip to the station to see what will happen next, or both.

A station may very use Christmas to bridge a format flip -- the Track certainly is -- but it is not necessary a portend to one.

Well Lets see this is the 4th time an Indy station has dropped one format for christmas to have a new one debut after Christmas. First was when 93.9 Dropped Country for 80's Hits, and again when it dropped FM Talk for Soft Rock, 93.1 did it when they sold off the CHR audience to Radio One to move WIBC to FM, and Now the demise of the Track for its new format come 12/26. KATZ in st Louis becomes the 2nd Year in a row a st louis station has used Christmas as a bridge between Formats With KATZ going from Urban to what ever its going to. Last year 101.1 went from Movin to Sports with christmas. so sometimes it may not be a true stunt. but it is used some times to blow out the old audience. to buiild a possible new one or make the station noticed. as with 93.1 here and 101.1 in St louis last year. 94.9 in atlanta also used christmas but it was more of a shock change out of them when they went from Lite 94.9 to the 94.9 the bull the last time 94.9 went christmas in atlanta
