Leykis is still under contract by CBS until 2012. He told listeners that he probably won't be on the air until that contract expires because he doesn't mind "not doing anything and getting paid for it", so there you go.

I can just picture Tom walking the streets of LA after hours bumping into former listeners who quip "Hey, you're Tom Leykis from (pausing to strain memory) " or worse yet "Hey, didn't you used to be Tom Leykis?" I'm sure only half a dozen such encounters will have Tom beating down the studio doors saying "Let me on-the-air!" Attention piggie needs to feed. ;-)

hahaha, just kidding, I was a huge Leykis fan from his KFI days and got quite sad when I heard the opening of Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just The Way It Is" because I knew the fun was done for the day. :'-(

Bring back Leykis, but make sure it's Tom "KFI" Leykis, please. :)

Oh, and bring back the emoticons too! :p
People won't listen for "KFI" Leykis...everyone wants "KLSX" Leykis

"KLSX" Leykis is dead and will never comeback. On the AM dial "KFI" Leykis can make a comeback. Tom should have stuck with politics. That is why even though his paycheck is nice. It's peanuts compared to what others have made having a national audience like Rush & Hannity on the right & Ed Shultz & Maddow on the left.
Please inform me of how "KLSX" Leykis is dead and will never come back?

because the FM Talk format will not comeback to L.A. ever again. At least not the KLSX hot talk let me sign your rack type of format. Those days are history! Tom will never do a show like that again! Mark my words!
Why wouldn't it!?! It was such a high biller for CBS, it only went off the air because of the bad economy! If you really listened to KLSX you would know it wasn't just all "signing racks!" FM hot talk will FOR SURE be back soon! MARK MY WORDS!

Not a chance. KLSX only worked so many years because of Howard. When Stern bolted for Sirius and CBS tried to run a hot talk network it failed miserably! Leykis failed in New York City on WNEW the # 1 market. Hot talk won't work nationally in conservative markets in the south and midwest. Like I stated before it didn't even work in NYC. To run a live and local FM hot talk station is too expensive. Only a hand full of companies in town. Clear Channel, Citadel? Please! None of these companies will touch the format, but keep dreaming buddy.

[/quote]The reason why FM Talk in NYC didn't work is because it was poorly formatted outside of Leykis, and relied on a bunch of unproven hosts, and when those hosts bolted, CBS relied on a bunch of unproven comics to fill spots. NYC and LA are two totally different markets!

Leykis is a L.A. kinda guy. Plus, Leykis ALWAYS bashed New Yorkers on his show. All news or all sports is much more expensive than live and local hot talk. When KLSX was billing really high, CBS wasn't worried. When advertisers stopped pumping so much money into KLSX/CBS radio had to pull the plug. It makes sense.

Of course another company, if not CBS, would bring the format back. Speaking of NYC, the FM talk format had returned once again in 2006, because CBS felt such a format could work. Heck, CBS might as well bring the format back once the economy gets rolling again, FHF (the most expensive talk show in America) is off their payroll! This format has proven that in L.A. this could work, in fact post-Stern KLSX kept their head above water.

You call Opie and Anthony unproven hosts? They were on that station at the time and aside from Stern they were the hottest thing on the radio at the time in NYC. Leykis came on in the evening and his failure didn't have anything to do with him bashing his former hometown it was that the format itself didn't get any ratings just as it didn't get any ratings in every other market where CBS Radio tried to put it post-Stern. We'll see what happens, but Leykis will be off radio until 2012-2013 and I would be shocked if he came back. Citadel and Clear Channel are the only other players in talk radio in L.A. aside from CBS and I don't see those companies with their CHEAP cost-cutting ways putting hot talk on FM. KABC will fail with Frosty, Heidi, and Frank but that is another topic for another day.

Try putting Opie and Anthony on a station in L.A., and see how bad they would fail. You know why, because they relate to people on the east coast. CBS can't be one of those cheap cost cutting companies when they are spending money on sports talk in several markets.

We were talking about the station in New York. You said it failed because it had unproven hosts. I never mentioned anything about O & A being on in Los Angeles. That station failed because the FM hot talk format is a bust. CBS will not bring back hot talk, so what other company will? You tell me. I'd like to know.

I was making a point about you saying how Leykis failed in NYC, and I mentioned how Leykis failed there because he couldn't relate to people in NYC, just as (for example) O and A would not work in L.A., because they don't relate to people in L.A.. Again, I ask you to inform me how fm hot talk is a "bust"? Is your opinion based on the fact that in the last few PPM's before the station's demise the ratings stayed at a 1.5??? Especially knowing that pre-PPM the station was eiether in the 2 range or just below it.

I'm guessing that CBS would be interested in bringing back hot talk because, it billed so highly for CBS for so many years.

Uh ... I don't think so. Wishful thinking on somebody's part. Certainly not around here.

Exactly wishful thinking. How can Leykis not relate to the NYC audience? The guy is from there. He didn't fail in NYC because he bashed the city. He failed because the whole format failed as it did in L.A. when Stern left. Biggest proof is that the format is gone from L.A. airwaves and no other company will put it back on. Keep praying though. Miracles do happen.

Clear Channel is still running WTKS, hot talk in florida. There will come a day when a company once again decides to try a hot talk format in a major market. I just hope they go for promising cheap talent instead of unproven overpaid crap like David Lee Roth and Adam Carolla.
