WILL WE HAVE A FORMAT SWITCH BY JUNE?

I am really tired of DAVE FM< it just does not work anymore, I would rather them go to a 60's 70's mix, with some jingles. Us baby boomers are still alive>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Like WCBS FM in NYC, ;love that station, it would be a winner in Atlanta. Sounds so cool...Kind of like K-Earth in LA too.

You're in the minority man - they're the second highest rated AAA station in the country, so they'd have to be crazy to change anything

Agreed. Also, Gen-X isn't doing so well....
Being a Gen Xer I hate to get pigeon holed into one type of music. While I like the music 99x plays, I also like the stuff on Project 961 and Rock 100.5. I also listen to news talk. I think the key is a wide variety. That's the one thing I notice when I travel, is that there is more verity in other markets.

I enjoy the music my parents listened too, baby boomers, but also like the new stuff. Why get trapped in one format? My 67 year old aunt like Pink and Lady Gaga.

I think what is missed these days is that we are not big on lots of talk and commercials. I know it takes a lot of money to run a major market station, but it's time to be more creative with advertising. A friend of mine is the APD at a "pop" station in ATL. He told me about when he worked in a smaller market that a spot, I believe it was coke, was so well done it made their countdown!

I think the format isn't dead but may need to "re-invent" itself.

Now that WNNX has moved, it looks like this prediction is coming true. TOLD YA SO.

And unlike the other posts predicting Rhythmic or CHR.........everybody seems to have
counted out the Gen X format (which has never been tried here). I think it would pull
a little from 5 or 6 stations. Just because other markets may have trouble with it, doesn't
mean ATL couldn't do something with it.

I think all-comedy has a more realistic chance of being in this market than Gen-X. (And that is not a joke.)

(1)Jan Jeffries already basically confirmed that 97.9 would be Rhythmic-leaning CHR
(2)I can't see anyone going directly up against Star 94's all-90s weekend like that

Or trans-sister 99X. Although I could see 99X evolving into GenX, if it hasn't already (I guess that depends on your definition).

You know how we ask ourselves "How will this affect Q100?"

The debut on 97.9 WILL....BIG TIME.....!!

Cumulus will be able to manipulate that though, just like Clear Channel does in Boston (CHR vs. Rhythmic) and in L. A. (CHR vs. HAC)

I don't think there's any question that Q100 targets the older end of the CHR demo - so they have one CHR playing songs that test well 25-34, and the other one playing songs that test well 18-25...

I always thought that Cumulus was against having a rhythmic-leaning CHR, hence why all of their CHRs nationwide (including Q100) are adult-leaning.

I agree with them not going all 90s. The dose of 90s we get from Star 94 on the weekends is perfect enough to not burn anyone out.

I mean, I don't think they're morally opposed to it - they programmed rhythmic-leaning CHRs in Dallas, Indy, and Nashville for a while, but a month or two ago they chose to have all their stations join the Q100 template - weird thing is, all three of those stations went from rhythmic-leaning to adult-leaning, and it basically hasn't affected their ratings (all three are still low-rated)

I can't imagine that the basis of their decisions though is anything but financial - you'd have to be crazy to sacrifice millions of dollars just so your stations could be programmed to your personal musical taste (I just can't buy that that's what's going on)

Yeah whoops - what was the purpose of Jan Jeffries going on about how there's room for another CHR in Atlanta? (Did anyone else see that article on the front page of AllAccess?)

I wouldn't say Journey 97.9 is Gen X though (Gen X plays hip-hop, Alternative, etc.) - it's gold-based AC

They are sounding a lot like Gen X minus the Hip Hop. A bit of everything.

Ehh...most Gen X stations I've heard sound like 90s CHRs in a time-warp - Journey is more 80s/90s gold AC/HAC (most of the tracks they play are pretty mellow and adult-friendly)
