Will Z100 Bring In Ryan Seacrest?

erwin33 said:
What a stupid, stupid decision from the world famous Z100!! Ryan Seacrest isn't from NYC, he is not in NYC when he do his show, it's not live, and most important: he's f-ing boooorrring on radio...! Good job Cheap Channel...not!

You're talking about this cockamamie "quote" from Mr. Seacrest:

"Z100 has been my favorite radio station in New York since I was a kid. I listen to Elvis all the time. I can't wait to play the Z100 jingles every workday and continue the American Top 40 on the weekends."

Yeah, I'm sure back in the day - when you were living in Atlanta - you were jammin' with Scott Shannon, Jack DeWack, et al.

I bet if Ryan Seacrest tried to call the Z100 request lines 20 years ago, he'd get hung up on.

"I can't wait to play the Z100 jingles every workday..."

This is a statement to the industry, right? Then who is he kidding. Everyone knows he wont be playing anything at all, but a computer will be automatically playing all the stuff out locally in NYC.

Shelley is a genuine talent and part of what makes Z-100 sound so good.

I'm pretty disappinted in the fact that stations like Kiss FM Chicago and Z-100 New York are giving over certain dayparts for this.
It's not like Howard Stern where you heard him live in mornings on all the stations that carried him, where he really takes listeners calls from all over the country, and makes radio fun.
The Ryan Seacrest syndicated show isnt bad, but its nowhere nearly as entertaining as hearing him live on KIIS-FM in the morning.

Z-100 already has a super top notch morning show, one that is actually piped to other stations around the country. Therefore, I really dont think carrying Seacrest's daily syndication will strengthen WHTZ's position..
Then again, I have been known to be wrong before. Ryan's show doesnt sound half bad on Toronto's new 99.9 Virgin Radio in the evenings. Maybe, just maybe, there's a chance it can excite some of the mid-day morning listeners of the NYC area.

10am on the East Coast is 7am on the West. If listeners call the national line (that he gives out on both shows), they'll be able to participate in both shows, potentially. While it's not real-time, it's close.

And keep in mind how little of your audience actually calls in to a show. The idea is for it to be entertaining. Listeners don't care how "local" it is.

As far as "Talent" goes....as good a Jock as Shelly might be, and as the previous poster says "The idea is for it to be entertaining", let me remind you that you're talking about "Hit Radio". The music is what drives the station. You could put a chimp on in the afternoon and people will listen as long as their favorite song is at least 10 minutes away. Hit Radio Jocks don't need to be entertaining. They need to play the music, backsell, talk to some callers and get back to the music as soon as possible. I really hate to admit it (because i'm not a fan of clear channel), but they got someone who will do this that has the ""name factor". He's on one of the biggest TV shows in the country and because of the syndication deal, Z-100 is probably paying less for Seacrest than they would local talent. Is Seacrest Talented...maybe, but does it really matter? It's like the Disney Machine. You think Miley Cyrus has talent? Could she sell records and sell out concerts without the TV show and a Dad in the business? I think not. Advertisers will flock to be associated with American Idols Seacrest which means a good deal for clear channel.

Wow...no wonder our own internal views of the industry are so bad. This is where our philosophies differ greatly. The evolution of radio, in my opinion, is rooted in content. The difference between a jukebox radio station, as you're suggesting is the best practice, and a listeners iPod, is that with their iPod, they at least have control over what plays.

Better content on radio doesn't mean talking more. It means taking the time you use to communicate, and relating to the audience. Talk about things that they CARE ABOUT.

Most don't.

I got a chance to listen to him on Kiss 95.7 in CT last friday afternoon. I gotta say He sucks IMHO. I listened to KC 101 instead
Last thing I wanna hear is a Stupid countdown everyday with lame entertainment sleeze. remember This is Just IMHO

Ryan Seacrest: CHR disease.

Tom Kent: classic hits disease.

It's spreading. Overnights were lost some time ago,
evenings are now being lost, middays appear to be next.
Can PM drive be far behind?

A year from now, your typical CBS and Cheap Channel
music station--if it isn't already--will be something like:

"Beth and Bill in the morning, and voicetracking all day!" ::)

PM Drive in Urban AC

Doug Banks & Michael Baisden

Already happening

Say it ain't so!

I'm appalled and disappointed. Not that Seacrest's show is subpar, but piping it into the legendary top-rated station in the #1 market in the country is beyond ridiculous. As a fledgling radio aficionado who looks up to Z100 above all other stations, this is extremely disheartening to see.

it's just par for the course for Cheap Channel....or Clone Channel...such a shame how they have single handedly ruined local radio throughout the nation. no local voices, piped in people from Los Angeles into NY and other markets, taking off talented local voices for Ryan Seacrest? gag....

I'm SOOOO glad that i have my ipod....

Is Shelly Wade still going to be on Kiss 108/Boston middays?

At least now, if she wanted to do her shows live from NYC and Boston, it is physically possible for her to get to Boston in time for her mid day show :-/

I didn't mind the Carson Daly countdown

A few thoughts
1. This is terrible for radio in general. Nothing's sacred anymore.
2. The time slot is smart. My reasoning is this.
Many were talking about the "high noon countdown." KIIS has a countdown as part of Seacrest's show. Expect to hear that countdown and expect them to hear it at the same time LA does. The sho will basically be symalcast. My thought is, they had might as well symalcast the whole thing. 5-7AM will be for LA only, and 7-10 will be New York, and LA.

Ryan Seacrest is best known as the host of "American Idol", one of my favorite shows is coming to Z-100 starting Monday. He is also doing mornings in LA on KIIS (not KISS depending on what the CC's top 40/CHR "Kiss-FM" moniker would be in different markets except for 96.1 playing urban top 40 on 96.1 in the Poughkeepsie area), but now he is carrying his morning show into middays at 10 AM and move Shelly Wade to do her overnight shift from 2 until 5 AM.

First there was the late Isaac Hayes on WRKS' "Kiss-FM" at 98.7 that lasted a few years in mornings, he was okay at that time when Isaac Hayes was doing mornings, I used to listened to him a little bit many years ago, but it was okay. He was an R&B/soul legend where he did "Shaft". And then came ex-Monkees Mickey Dolenz was also doing mornings on CBS-FM and it lasted right up until the "Jack" flip and it has been on that station for a few months until he left the station after his 100th show at BB King's resturant a few hours prior to "Jack". And then came Whoopi Goldberg, she was usually does mornings on WKTU for about a year and it didn't work for her until it pulled the plug along with the rest of the stations elsewhere. I guess "American Idol's" own Ryan Seacrest would be a great fit for middays at Z100. He will be on from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

I don't know much about the Z-100 jingles played during the Ryan Seacrest announcement. Too bad that Gotham City's CC would step up to the plate for this one. If he does well, they would get some publicity, if this fails, maybe it will be replace by either Kermit the Frog or Batman & Robin where they are going to do middays with special guest, the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin, Mr. Freeze and Egghead.

To get right back to this discussion, I like Ryan Seacrest, he is a great talent and even as a host of "American Idol". I would look forward to see the show next year for the new season as well as the "'American Idol' Experience" coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in January.

I will tip my hat off to Ryan Seacrest of his own morning show on KIIS in LA and the host of "American Idol" where he will be doing middays on Z100. Good luck!

I think Z-100 has [EDIT-profanity]. Cheap Channel disgusts me. Shelley Wade, live and local, who loves her listeners is being shifted to make way for LA's most overrated closet-case. Seacrest works best in smaller markets but to dare compromise that in the biggest radio market... it's a move that I hope fails. Sure CC, keep cutting corners and shoot yourselves in the foot. I'll just sit here and laugh.

Yes, Seacrest is a household name and I'm sure the PLJ soccer moms might get a kick out of him. Blink 102.7 10am-1pm weekdays on Z-100. :)

I hope Seacrest would do better than watching my favorite TV show "Amercian Idol" hosted by the same guy. Ryan's guests will be Mickey Mouse, Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Kermit the Frog and many other guests to be on this on one place in one show every weekday during work days.

Seacrest is an incredible talent. A household name. NY listeners know him from American Idol, AT 40, New Years Eve, ect...He will dominate in his time slot in NY just as he does in LA. To think he can only work in syndication to smaller markets is...wrong. Thats the nicest way I can put it. The show will sound great, have an excellent roster of guests, play the best music and just be entertaining.

I laugh everytime somebody tries to discredit this guy because he proves time and time again that he is a monster on the mic. His work ethic is unhuman. Does he ever sleep? I dont agree with everything CC does, but with this guy they have gotten it right every time. Be prepared to hear him on Z-100 for a very long time.

So now I guess I will check in on the NY board every so often to see people try and bag on him the way they have tried on the El-Lay board. When he took over for Rick Dees people were calling for his and KISS FMs demise, when it wasnt happening it was just a lucky first book or two, or three... when it kept happening its a fluke fad. when he hit #1 and stayed on top for years now they bitch about American Idol, or his appearence on Robot/Chicken, his hair, whatever. Face it, the guy is the real deal. Thats why he is taking over major markets everywhere. Dont drink the haterade man...makes you look jaded and ignorant.

Oh yea...phock Clear Channel, but Seacrest is alright. :D

felt wierd having someone thats not live on z100 especially for middays

Seacrest may be fantabulous in LA and maybe so was Wink Martindale and Dave Diamond. Could these people just have jumped in and got the NooYork sound and replaced Jack Spector or Harry Harrison? Don't know but I doubt it. In defense of CC and VT'ing however, down in Dixie we get a lot of COX and they program huge dayparts and almost all nights with nobody at all. Just a muzak like format for any genre.

fantabulous... lol i love it! :)

I just don't see it working. C'mon, giving away money to promote Seacrest? Shouldn't his name be enough to sell people on it already? Seacrest announces a Pay Your Bills winner during his show...... Sadly enough, the people would probably only listen around 11am and that's it. I haven't listened and I don't intend on doing so anytime soon.
If I wanted to hear his fluff, I'd turn on the American Top 40 Countdown or watch Idol. He's too bubbly. His personality fits well for people just like him in California. He doesn't have what it takes to win over people in NY. Shelley's personality was perfect for middays. A real pro she is. I hope she's taking this well and hangs in there.
I could care less about celeb interviews unless it pertains to in-studio interviews on Elvis' show or Shelley's old slot. I hear the funny sleaze reports from Danielle in the mornings and at night. Do we need another Blink 102.7 from 6am-1pm? No, we don't. Z-100 sure begs to differ.

Any chance someone will chime in on this that's actually in the demo (read: 18-34...hell, a female of ANY age)? Hearing the wailing ghosts of how great things used to be, all of which are dudes that aren't even the target, is getting boring.

Aren't they all at school/college/work? Thus, not listening?
