Winter book out today

HAHAHA...Little Davey: 35+ stations have been putting baby djs on for years. That's why stations like The Wolf have a 2.9 :D

Keep in mind, though, that we were ALL "Baby DJs" at one time or another. Granted, not all of us cracked the mic for the first time in Market #5 (I'd venture to say my hometown would be ranked somewhere near market 1,005), but we've all been there - and I'll even go out on a limb and say that 99.9999999% of us sucked back then, too. My really old airchecks are enough to make my ears bleed.

Not to start any flame wars, but if you're on the sidelines and you think you can do better, grab the brass ring and go for it. Smokey will give you a fair shake.

Unfortunately I didn't even think to roll tape the first time I went live. :( I was 16 years old, what did I know? :)

The earliest one I know of is from my last shift at my first station. I was 19, had been there 3 years, and was headed off to college. I still sucked although my cadence and breathing were much better.

txchipk nailed why MOVIN' is doing so poor. CBS )under Joel Hollander) was in such a hurry to put this "next big thing" format on that they didn't look at the landscape of markets. It's doing horrible in markets that have Urban ACs such as DFW. San Francisco is another market where the music on MOVIN' was already saturated on several different outlets. Another company made the poor decision of putting a rhythmic AC on in Memphis, a market with an endless amount of Urban ACs and Urban oldies stations.

My prediction is that CBS under new VP Dan Mason (who has an extensive programming background unlike Hollander) will flip many if not all of the company's MOVIN' stations in the next few months.

Oh, and how about KTFW even making the book.

Not only that, KFWR didn't even make book! KFWR can barely be picked up at the airport and KTFW can't be picked up in Hurst!

Maybe it is more about who they asked than how many people were actually listening!

Sorry Neal Country is really not my cup of tea. I agree with Davey though, putting on a 20 year old on a 35+ station in most cases not a good idea.

The big caveat being if you sound like a 20-year old ;D I did alright working at a large-market A/C when I was 21. 'Course I'd already been in the biz for five-and-a-half years by that point.

does age really matter? Omar seems like he knows what he's doing plus he has the experience of beeing a PD in LA Market 2 so i dont really think he's under qualified even if he is 23

They hiring?

That I don't know. I haven't spoken to anybody over there since I left almost 2 months ago.

As for Omega's question about 'does age matter?' In most cases it does indeed matter because a 23-year old can't relate to a 35-year old. Generation gap.

He wasn't PD in LA. He did nights on an 18-34 station.

As I was reading the different entries I was going to mention some things about KEGL and David E stole my thunder. I guess I would be saying ditto to his comments about KEGL. Internally they know they suck after 3p. Omar worked on their Mega format in Albuquerque I believe right before he came to Dallas. Its not about age necessarilly but in this case its about that and a few other things. As some of you know if you prep and come prepare with your game you could at least sound well read. Don't know about the music, which also could be killing the shift, but the previous guy had a better connection with the audience.

The "previous guy" is Jaime Alejandro, who is KLNO's new morning team leader! And you are correct about afternoons... the style is way off for the format, plus the music A/C gold while the rest of the day is not... Preciosa network is light regional Mexican.

MNega in ABQ and the one in Denver did so badly the reverted to English, both under this PD I believe.... so there is hope for English on 97.1 as they seem to bring him in just before flipping back.

Ok well let me start by letting y'all know that I am very proud of KEGL's success. I did nights on La Preciosa for 6 months "Noche Preciosas" con El Pitufo and Patti Estrada. Along with nights I was the Imaging Director and MUSIC director locally. In other words I worked along side a VERY TALENTED team headed by a VERY SMART, EDUCATED, AND WELL ROUNDED BOSS...OMAR ROMERO!!! During those Six Months at KEGL WE developed a Plan of attack to knock KLNO out of the number 2 spanish radio spot and the number 1 spanish oldies slot in Dallas!...And guess what??? IT WORKED! The 3.2 (12+) that La Preciosa has did not happen to fall out of the SKY! It was long hours of music research, long hours of changing the stations IMAGE, and long hard fought hours of being out in the Dallas, METROPLEX STREETS, promoting the local programming. It is a combination of OUT OF THIS WORLD promotions and Dances, AWESOME MUSIC ROTATION, and Smooth imaging making a RADIO STATION THAT NOT ONLY "MEXICAN" CAN LISTEN TO, but everyone in Dallas. Anywhere from a CONSTRUCTION SIGHT TO A DOCTORS OFFICE, TO A RESTAURANT LA PRECIOSA cand be herd why??? Becuase La P is LISTENER FRIENDLY and La P TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION FAMILY VALUES AND MORALS of its listeners and fans. I am only 27 years of AGE and Omar is only 24 going on 25 (by the way HAPPY B-day CHAMP) and it is GRRRREAT that Omar and I can sit here today and tell you that the FORMULA that CLEARCHANNEL has devloped to create GREAT radio is SECOND TO NONE! It works! The PROOF is in the PUDDING from a 2.1 to a SOLID 3.2 does not happy because some happen to get LUCKY! In conclusion to my comment Dallas Spanish radio market has a "MAVERICK" working in it his name is OMAR ROMERO, he will not let up till he is number 1. If that means working 10 to 14 hour days, 7 days a week...so be it! Omar not only has managed to MERGE Network programing and Local Programing to create a RADIO PRODUCT such as La Preciosa but is looking further on South to HOUSTON where I KNOW LA P will kick some butt and take names!!! GOOD JOB "MIS PRECIOSOS' ALEX, SNRTA. ROSMAR, OMAR, ANITA, PITUFO, LAURA EL EQUIPO DE PROMOCIONES, JORGE Y TODOS FELICIDADES, SE LO MERECEN!!!

Obviously, you can not read a book. The only winning dayparts are 6-10 and 10-3, when the programming comes from Salinas. The local dayparts lose. Nice try.

YOU SEE DAVID EDUARDO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THIS CONSEPT! ANYWAYS NICE TO KNOW YOUR ON THE BOARD PITUFO GOOD LUCK IN ABQ!!

David, Good Lord give it up! You're wrong and you can't admit it. You lost, quit being so rude and snide. KEGL bruised your station. Now drop it.

Not quite. The dayparts that did do well are networked 100% out of Salinas, CA. The local dayparts tanked.
