Radio & Records released the Winter 2009 12+ ratings and it's likely more than a few people are scratching their heads. Regent may be on the verge of economic collapse, but the company has three stations in the Top 5.
WBEN, the market's sole commercial news talk station, holds the top spot in the Winter ratings derby, pulling a 10.3. Country WYRK is steady at #2; WBLK up considerably at #3; fourth place 97 Rock slipped a full share from Fall 2008, but it's up from Winter of 2008 with a 6.4. WJYE was consistent and tied 97 Rock. WKSE is off a bit, but in 6th place. Is Ryan Seacrest is helping or hurting?
The biggest surprise of the Winter book is Star 102.5, which skided to 7th place, off its Christmas book in Fall 2008 and down even from Winter 2008! That's a big surprise for what many pundits consider the AC leader in the market. The Edge is steady, but unspectacular in 8th place. WHTT placed 9th, down from Fall of 2008 and off from Winter of 2008. Jockless Jack rounds out the top ten 12+, up a skooch from Fall 2008 and Winter of 2008 as well.
Hard to figure out what's more disappointing, the Buffalo Sabres or its flagship station's ratings. WGR is down from Fall of 2008 and Winter of 08. The Lake level rose a bit, up from Fall 08 but off from Winter 2008.
Solid Gold Soul AM 1400 perked up half a share from Fall of 08 and matched its Winter 2008 performance with a 1.8 share, which often are combined with Star by the Entercom's sales staff.
Standards on AM 740 pulled a 1.7, up a hair from Fall, but off from a year ago. Interesting that the combined 12+ ratings for 740 + 1400 = a 3.5 share. The Schriver clan at WXRL attracted a 1.5 share and beat WWKB, which slumped to a .5 share without Randi Rhodes (or is it because the station is said to be running at half power?) WECK pulled a .6 and sister station WLVL garnered a .4 share.
