With KLSX flippind which station in LA could flip next?

In the past year here in LA have had 2 format flips. On 100.3 and today 97.1. Another top 40 station is just what we don't need. Why couldn't have CBS gone with a fresh format or Active Rock?

Which LA station will be the next format flip victim? KCBS,KYSR, KMVN or KTWV?

Does KTWV have a healthy future here in LA?

Super Estrella will be the next to go. I'm sure that was the plan even before Amp hit the airwaves. El Gato at 103.1 and 107.1 is what I expect very soon.

Why would KYSR flip - it beat KROQ 18-34 persons in the last weekly.

JACK is always top 10 25-54 overall and top 5 English stations.

KTWV is doing very well now (top 12 or so overall) and is cheap to run.

KMVN is improving each week...

KSSE is in trouble.

EL GATO is off to a big start and Entravision would be smart to grow the brand. The other option could be to put EL GATO on 103.1 and 97.5 and put JOSE on 107.1.

Another good idea for El Gato. It's got to be coming very soon. That will be good for Latino 96.3 as well since they'll take a bit of a hit, at least, from AMP.

Amp will also hurt Movin. Not that they are a great threat to anyone.

KIIS, KXOL, and KPWR are top 3 teens - so depending on how AMP skews, they may all be affected.

KXOL still has Spanish dominant but they will lose some audience. They could've had this opportunity without the Clarkson and All-American Rejects songs but chose to hold on to Reggaeton. If KSSE flips, they can evolve like some of the Univision La Kalle stations have.

KTLK will flip to True Oldies on Monday.

Now that's "change" we can believe in! ;D

Why would KXOL take a hit from Amp? If the KXOL cumers that listen to KIIS change station, or divide listening, that does not mean that they will listen to KXOL less.

And KSSE is tenth down the list of stations that share cume with KXOL. KRCD share more cume with them than KSSE does.

We'll compare ratings in the weeks to come and after Super Estrella exits. I don't expect to be incorrect.

KXOL's issues have been due almost entirely to the major improvements in KPWR, as running a few PPM tables through SPSS on a correlation analysis will show.

I can see that is already how you will try to explain why KXOL has lost numbers after AMP has hit the airwaves.

David - do you really think KSSE can hold on? They seem to be on a sharp decline for quite a while. They've never really recovered from KXOL - who really hammered a lot of stations when they signed on (from KDAY to KKBT to Power 106). They pulled from a pretty good cross section.

KKBT used to have a large group of Hispanics (primarily P2) that went away when KXOL came on and KDAY flanked them with African Americans.

Look how many Latin Urbans (WCAA, WRTO, KLOL, and KVIB) ultimately went the Spanish Cont. route - for all different reasons. KXOL continues to try and straddle the fence. At some point, don't they need to make up their mind?

The KSSE audience is getting smaller. I can see that happening! The "rock en espanol" audience is getting older. That is why they added reggaeton in the last few years. It would make sense to move "Jose" to 107.1.

KSSE was never a "rock en español" station. It has bounced between what is called "pop" and "hot AC" over the years, but never been rock.

Of the 100 most played songs, only 4 this week are reggaetón. KSSE is in one of it's hot AC moods.

KSSE will, no doubt, try to imitate the success of KLOL in Houston... a PPM format winner that was not a challenger in the diary method. They improved a lot by getting rid of the regional Mexican morning show which is now on PM drive on El Gato.

WCAA is tropical Caribbean (and much reggaetón is actually pop flavored salsa or tropical), and WRTO is all salsa. WRTO plays no pop or contemporary, and WCAA only plays some rhthymic / tropical mixes of pop songs.

KXOL is a blend of reggaetón and hip hop, and going for the English language dollars with an Hispanic format. If the rumored sale / trade happens soon, it will likely move more to the Spanish side, too... but with Hurban, more than likely.

I certainly would not expect you to run data through SPSS, of course.

I agree that each one went in a different direction - different music for their market - but basically the Latin Urban format has pretty much disappeared.

I don't see this direction lasting long - especially with another player in the 18-34 Rhythmic game in English. They will basically be the 4th rhythmic.

I'm still questioning the need for three Spanish Contemporary stations in Dallas and Houston.

KFWB from News to Talk. Perhaps that's more of a "segue" than a "flip." Maybe some of the KLSX'ers will wind up on the new KFWB, especially if CBS has to keep paying them anyway.

KMVN certainly seems a lot more likely to flip to CHR than it did 8 hours ago.

Say what? That has to be the most ridiculous post of the day.

Please expand on.

KMVN has a low 2 25-54. KIIS has a mid 5 share. If KIIS, 97.1 and 93.9 split three ways, that's a high 1 ...

Not to mention 97.1 leans Rhythmic and will almost certainly pull a bit from Power 106 as well.

Your posts are usually much more intelligent than that.

There was almost no chance of Movin' going Top 40 before and there would be zero chance now as long as Emmis owns it.
