David - do you really think KSSE can hold on? They seem to be on a sharp decline for quite a while. They've never really recovered from KXOL - who really hammered a lot of stations when they signed on (from KDAY to KKBT to Power 106). They pulled from a pretty good cross section.
KSSE will, no doubt, try to imitate the success of KLOL in Houston... a PPM format winner that was not a challenger in the diary method. They improved a lot by getting rid of the regional Mexican morning show which is now on PM drive on El Gato.
Look how many Latin Urbans (WCAA, WRTO, KLOL, and KVIB) ultimately went the Spanish Cont. route - for all different reasons. KXOL continues to try and straddle the fence. At some point, don't they need to make up their mind?
WCAA is tropical Caribbean (and much reggaetón is actually pop flavored salsa or tropical), and WRTO is all salsa. WRTO plays no pop or contemporary, and WCAA only plays some rhthymic / tropical mixes of pop songs.
KXOL is a blend of reggaetón and hip hop, and going for the English language dollars with an Hispanic format. If the rumored sale / trade happens soon, it will likely move more to the Spanish side, too... but with Hurban, more than likely.
