What a morning for skip. KITE-FM from Victoria took over 93.3 this morning. Nowhere to be found was KQBU. It was clear as a bell, without any drop offs. I also heard a station called "106.9 The Rock". At first, I thought "Oh my God, Cox has finally done something." Minutes later I was disappointed, as the Point fought it's way back on the frequency. Pretty good classic rock station, a little rough on the overall presentation, but definitely a step up from what's on our 106.9. It ID'ed itself as another Victoria station. With the power that KHPT puts into the Heights on a normal basis, I found this hard to believe that "The Rock" would be capable of drowning out "The Point". If only it were permanent...but que sera sera. Fooling around with the radio a little more, I found 97.7 with Tejano music being distorted by the Box, 98.3 with country music, 101.7 simulcasting KEYH 850 here in Houston, and 102.5 which id'ed itself as KMKS-FM Bay City.

Re: Who's Skip?

Just kidding :)
97.7 is also out of Victoria. Suprised it made it all the way out here considering it being a rather low power station. The country station also interfering was most likely 97.5 KFTX out of Corpus (COL Kingsville). Man I wish I had been listening this morning. Wonder if 95.1 KVIC was making it this way also?

KQBU was off the air for a couple of minutes this morning. That's why KITE was really strong through the Houston Area. I also found WYLD coming in into my house stereo. KTJM was being killed by a station that was also coming in through the east, but 260 miles farther away from KTJM's transmitter.

Backwards out at Lavaca county, KITE was no where to be found as KQBU blue them away, KIX 108 even with me in the "local" area of KIXS KQQK blured over KIXS like KIXS wasnt even there. Tejano 97.7 is out of Cuero KLTO they had a CP of being out at closer to San antonio, but that remains to be seen if that will acually happen. heh most of the time I cant even get the rock 106.9 in Victoria with my antenna 20' up going to Houston, usually the point blows them out, but in my Truck the rock comes in. Did you try 95 KVIC to hear djnrjenz? he does a great dance mixshow.

The 97.5 in Corpus used to occasionaly blast into Houston during favorable tropo conditions, long before the Beaumont 97.5 upgrade hit the air. I recall listening to the old KWVS "The Waves" (KFTX predecessor) during such openings in the late 80's, and yes, it was sort of a prototype of what KHJZ is today. However, it also had some new age mixed in.

"Tropospheric ducting" is what that was..."e-skip" typically goes 800-1200 miles and is a completely different thing.
