WIVM/13 North Royalton lights up?

Any news on this station re-appearing?
If it does, it won't be a repeater for WIVM-LD as they even took the Channel 13 logo/call letters/city, down from their website.

That was the fastest turnover of a station in my memory, and somewhat of a disappointment. I was hoping it could leak some local television back into the Cleveland market.

I don't know if these low power stations have protection rules, but I would presume that neither licensee wants a situation like that.
They do, but the amount of interference that they can accept is higher compared to a full power broadcast. Low powers, excluding Class A's, must accept interference from nearby full power stations, but overlapping the coverage areas of two low power stations by almost 50% is ridiculous. Not to mention that you also have W13DP-D in Youngstown on RF 13, which has some overlap as well. Good luck if you live in Portage County and want to receive either station, along with WTVG.

I'm not sure why W13DS-D didn't file to move to RF 11 in the process. There's nothing broadcasting on that frequency in that area. All they would have to do is not to create any interference to WTOL and WPKD. Coverage mock-up.

This was posted on WIVM-LD's Facebook page this afternoon...

Effective February 1, Bridge Media assumed ownership and programming of WIVX Channel 13 in Cleveland and W27DG-D Channel 27 in Alliance and are no longer carrying our local programming.
If you live in those affected areas you can point your antenna toward Doylestown and try to pick up WIVM Channel 39 that covers Akron or our Channel 26 signal in Alliance.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help Cleveland area viewers any, with only a handful of those viewers being able to actually decode WIVX-LD. I seriously doubt that those viewers will be able to decode WIVM-LD, even if they aim their properly installed outdoor antenna in the direction of their transmitter.

I read on another forum that WIVX has a construction permit to move to 32 (UHF) from 13 (VHF). This might help more people see the station. The only problem is that NewsNet and Sports Highlights recently went blank nationwide. Not sure what Bridge News has planned for this station or what prompted to move from 13 to 32?

WIVX-LD on RF 13 has been displaced by WMFD's RF 12 due to adjacent interference. There wasn't an issue at first, but when WMFD recently replaced their antenna, which involved a different pattern as well as a power increase, predicted interference increased from 0.06% to 1.11%, exceeding the 0.5% threshold.

WIVX-LD's RF 32 broadcast will cover less ground compared to RF 13, due to the presence of WYFX-LD in Youngstown, also broadcasting on RF 32. As for programming, I'm not sure what Bridge News has in mind for their stations, but if they put WIVX-LD up for sale, a broadcast on RF 32 would make the station more attractive to a potential buyer compared to a VHF frequency with its issues. Any future ownership would likely hop the station to another portion of Northeast Ohio, particually the Mansfield/Ashland area where a decent broadcast on RF 32 could be ultilized.

I didn't know if I wanted to bump an old thread or start a new.

Am I correct in seeing that WIVX-13 (North Royalton), has a total of 14 sub-channels and very little coverage?

Sounds either really stupid, or smart...That they made the investment in buying that channel in the first place. Anyone have any input as to the purpose?

...and there was me hoping WIVM would've kept it, strengthened the signal and gave a more "Southern Cuyahoga County" presence.

They have an application to move to RF 32, which gets them off of the VHF band, but at the cost of a smaller coverage area. It's on the same short tower that's behind a hill in North Royalton. I've never been able to decode WIVX-LD because of this, and even without the hill blocking their signal, W13DP-D (or WYFX-LD after moving to RF 32) in Youngstown would interfere with them badly. Not to mention WTVG in Toldeo, which I'm sure wipes them out practically everywhere during the slightest tropo event.

I've heard reports that viewers located within miles of WIVX-LD's transmitter can't decode their signal, even with a proper antenna setup. Their small and problematic coverage area, due to being shoehorned in between existing co-channel broadcasts, makes me wonder why Bridge News even bothered to buy the station, and then load it up with 14 subchannels that hardly anyone would be able to see. I hope Bridge News can buyout another LP station, like WRAP-LD or one of the HC2 stations, which would help get their broadcast out to many more viewers.

The only way that a station with such a small coverage area would work would be with a transmitter on a downtown building. That way, even if you only get out a few miles you would cover a lot of people.
