Sheesh, folks on here sure take things WAY too seriously. I meant no harm by laughing at the "WKSW rejects" line. I just found it humorous, much like I would if I saw the line "OSU rejects" somewhere. Jim Tressel was a good coach, but he is now a REJECT.
ML dumped KC b/c it wasn't doing very good ratings IMO...as well as it would've been stupid for ML to try to pit KC up against the monster that is K-99.1 FM. They were lucky to do low 1s in that last book. They're now in the low 2s as of the last 'Trend, plus it seems as though ML has an obsession with trying to sink Mix 107.7 by throwing in another "Thorn in the side" of that station. Also notice that WXEG's ratings have dropped quite a bit since CLiCK signed on. CLiCK is clicking upward, even if the signal is just a rimshot.
Lee will find something else. He's been in the market for years and years.
Alan, whereas I am not and will not be "mad" at you, rather use your points to prove you have NO point except sell fulfillment of hearing ones voice so to speak in print. I would like to thank you for opening the lid on your subject with the opinions of others whom disagree with the points about "rejects" and the humor in it. I would not go in a corner to "fight" with you, maybe take the wheels off the carts you push at Meijer and laugh and post on line of the "horrible" job you were doing, knowing all along the hardships you needed to over come, yet never mention that. As you did by talking trash about former co-workers and friends at the old Kiss Country. If you do not like country, that is fine, great. They did fine w/o your listener ship for years. Unless of course, you want to claim that is the reason they are no longer on the air.
Once Mainline decided they no longer were going to keep KC, they no longer INVESTED in the product. Why would they? It is their business decision. That takes nothing away from the people whom worked there. When the resources are removed preventing them from doing the job they were capable of, they did a great job with what they had to work with. THAT alone makes me glad to have worked with those guys.
Nick is where he is b/c of what he did at Kiss Country that caught the attention of others. Many in Dayton, where they had virtually no signal, knew of the job being done at that small station and took notice. But Dayton is where Mainline (actually radio one) wanted to be, and so they knew with the resources and power of the company that owns WHKO, that it would be futile to go against them, so they flipped formats. I probably would have done the same, or something similar.
About the ratings at WKSW, a couple things were working against them, one Clark county is no longer the second biggest county in the demo. Greene is, that leaves less books for Clark county to sample. And since WKSW had great signal in both Clark and Champaign counties, it degrades rapidly outside those counties. And with the removal of resources by corporate, it affected ratings even more. If investment is not made in the product, it shows. COX media invests in their product, and like them or not it shows in the ratings doesn't it? And since advertising revenue is tied to ratings, it all comes full circle. Where as KC still did good on revenue, it would fall eventually too reflecting the lack luster Clark county economy. So it all makes sense when you tie it all together. Now how is this information the fault of on air talent?
A lot of times we let emotion dictate reality and common sense. But at the end of the day, WKSW was doomed once the decision was made to move to Dayton, all knew but did not want to admit it. It was not the fault of staff. Once Lee and Andy was the only two left on the air, like at my tenure at WDOL, I realized what was to come.
Alan, think about this. Why seriously don't you try your hand on line at a station? It is cheap and you can put your theories into practice.
It is a fun hobby and then you can see if your theories are practical, even in a micro sense.
Affectionately your little buddy,
Gilligan
