WJBO has a cp for 15kw on 1150am

Apparently when no one has been looking, WJBO has put in a application that was granted on August 17th to go from a 3 tower 5kw directional signal during daytime to a 15kw 4 tower setup. Apparently they will keep the current setup for 5kw nighttime authorization.

Apparently Clear Channel wants to improve their main talker in South Louisiana the most they can.

Any Comments?

Well good for them. Back when I walked the halls of the old 444 Florida Blvd studios, it was always a treat to read the framed 1941 stories about the "superpower" facility that was being built in the wilds of West Baton Rouge.

Of course in the 60+ years since, the population has pretty far away from the tower -- in the opposite direction.

It's a nice looking application, glad to see they were able to re-use the old site by just adding one tower.

Now if they can just do something with 1210.

i dont think they care about 1210.

910 is still holding on, if just not doing it on the air.

Original tower site is now a Wal-Mart, what a surprise. If I understand correctly the surviving entity has an STA to keep the station -- now called WUBR -- temporarily dark until a new site is built somewhere between Baker and Zachary near LA-19. They have a CP and have filed a few additional apps to fine-tune the final location of the site. Recnet.com and of course the FedCandyCo.gov sites have the info.

Was anyone here around at the time who can confirm the legend that 910 was offered high-power to combat Cuban interference, but decided it was too expensive to build?

We applied for this mainly for one reason: Back in Dec. of 2004, WJRD 1150 AM in Tuscaloosa, AL upped their daytime power from 5kw to 20kw non-directional. Their sky wave at sunrise and sunset lands right on top of our metro. Some mornings/early evenings we get wiped off the map by those guys until the sun gets ups good or goes all the way down. Our effective listening area has been whacked in 1/2 at sunrise and sunset. This upgrade will let us reclaim the metro with a clean signal. In additon, we will add HD when we upgrade. Now, you want to talk about a mess? In mid-september many of the 50KW blowtorches will crank their HD up full-time, even at night. Reports of test signals indicate that this will RUIN the AM band for those listening on analog radios. Thank goodness no big stick is on 1140 or 1160, but it will be the end of hearing 870 all over the country.

yes i cant get wjbo at my house on AM past around 4 or 5 pm. i live south of livingston. so you are telling the truth. just simolcast on 1210. its not used for anything anymore ;D and it reaches east. ;)

And could it be that WWL will soon have an FM signal in Red Stick to compete on the local level??? Hmm...could get interesting...

are you saying that as fact or guessing?

would be a good move. but i dont hink it could happen. having the saints in stereo ;D but JBO already has them so i doubt it could happen. i cant get JBO on the dial where i work. and i work in baton rouge  but i can get wwl 105.3.

Thanks to the guy from JBO for clearing up the Cp issue.. very interesting, thanks for the reply.

And I wouldn't expect WWL in Baton Rouge, or if I did, that it wouldn't be a ratings bonanza except for New Orleans ex-residents and Saints fans.

WWL is narrowed focus and most stations from New Orleans, even those on the Vacherie tower have had a New Orleans only attitude. (actually the last station that actually focused on the region and was from New Orleans was WCKW in my opinion.)

But it will be interesting to see what happens with 105.5 in the capital city....

105.7 is on the air. playing P&W from jefferson baptist church ::)

Technically what you are hearing is WBRJ-LP on 105.7 which just got it's LP license earlier this month (after operating on a CP for a while apparently) and would have to move to another channel if KDDK's move from Franklin to Addis is fully licensed (as they are supposed to be operating right now on the CP on 105.5 MHZ.

http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws...text=25&appn=101193283&formid=1&fac_num=22310

As Lps are under the same rules as major stations in regards to adjacent channel interference. And KDDK's licensed service area is right over the LPs broadcast area... and the rules the way they are to protect full power stations, the LPs gotta move...

KDDK was standards in Franklin but haven't heard from them since the CP.. any station from Baton Rouge above a lp power can be heard in my area when tropo happens.. and Haven't heard anything out of 105.5 (instead getting KEUN from Eunice most times anymore)

Can we have the5kw at WGSO? Well, anyway, thanks to the six other stations carrying the "Original Prep Football Report" Ken and the rest of us put out a far superior product than the "Big pain in the a.." WWL
