WJBO has a cp for 15kw on 1150am

We applied for this mainly for one reason: Back in Dec. of 2004, WJRD 1150 AM in Tuscaloosa, AL upped their daytime power from 5kw to 20kw non-directional. Their sky wave at sunrise and sunset lands right on top of our metro. Some mornings/early evenings we get wiped off the map by those guys until the sun gets ups good or goes all the way down. Our effective listening area has been whacked in 1/2 at sunrise and sunset. This upgrade will let us reclaim the metro with a clean signal. In additon, we will add HD when we upgrade. Now, you want to talk about a mess? In mid-september many of the 50KW blowtorches will crank their HD up full-time, even at night. Reports of test signals indicate that this will RUIN the AM band for those listening on analog radios. Thank goodness no big stick is on 1140 or 1160, but it will be the end of hearing 870 all over the country.

Will the new pattern/power throw anything extra toward the west toward Texas?

YES, I agree about HD....kiss AM night time goodbye when that happens...

Our westward lobe will be the same size, although with 15K out of the transmitter, it will be a little stronger west. However, the main lobe will be east and south. We will have a lobe over New Roads/St. Francisville. Again, only during the daytime....nighttime power/patter will remain the same.
