WJDQ (Q101) MERIDIAN MOVING TO 95.1

Two country stations in a battle.

Well, it's not like Meridian didn't already have two country stations. Clear Channel just never gave 95 the push it should have had. Now, Miss-101 will be their big dog and the old Q101 format will be relegated to second banana as Q95.1. That was quite a run... same format on the same station for 27 years (since June 6, 1979).

What's in the old Q106 building in Newton now? A crack house?

LF

I think that Q95.1 has been given a huge boost, new blood so to speak. The excitement could only help a station that has been floundering for awhile. Clearchannel is more than likely going to take the 1,2, and 3 spot. Miss 101, Q95.1 and Kiss will be powerhouses when all is said and done. Shaking things up in radio..... what a concept.

well its been almost two years since the big change radiogal, anymore predictions? can you give me any tips on the upcoming football season? what's that, you think the Saints are the team to beat this year? That figures!

I heard a rumor but I don't want to say anything until such time as it's a reality. Let me just say that I really hope URB changes their minds, assuming what me and the other party are thinking does happen. And believe me: If it does, I will have plenty to say on the subject. This is your chance to talk me out of pouring gasoline onto a bridge and lighting the match. Of course, that would be a possibility if this goes down.

I hear Q95 is going some form of AC....Hot, Mainstream, Oldies based, I dont know.....does it matter? What a waste of a heritage.......CC cut its throat and URB is letting it bleed out. They just hired a Cumulus production director from Savannah to give him his first PD gig on Q.....Want a prediction? Watch the balance tilt back to Hwy 45 North......starting with OKK........I'll wager it.

Interesting. Q going back to an AC based format. Well to say I have my own thoughts is an understatement. Actually pending on what happens it might be good. Remember Q101 went Hot AC throughout most of the 90s and still used CHR positioning. I don't see the heritage going away, Q95 had none to begin with, it was the heritage of Q101 that was lost with the frequency swap. Actually how could you not technically consider an AC branded Q has hit radio, the playlist on most AC formats today are comprised of the cuts that gave CHR such prominance back in the good ol days.

My .02 cents

Best I can tell, the spots have been pulled. Today I heard nothing but PSAs when I'd catch a stopset. The death groan has begun. :(

Not only a format change, but little birdie says jocks moving around in that building. Could be a good thing for the station, but too much change in too little time has hurt this station.

Here's the thing, you can blame the awful numbers on many different things. The "big switch" to Q95.1 or whatever. But let's face it. That station went to smoke as soon as David Day left. It was a downward spiral the whole there. And it was totally run into the ground this past year dating back to last January. Me and Lee left that station right in the nick of time. The writing was all over the wall and we got out. I got to watch that station get poor leadership and inexperience and watched it burn. Well some people got out before it all crashed down, but most of us know how that station crashed.
It's ashame too. I love Q101 growing up and then to get to work for them was a real treat. But it is a testament of how a few dumb moves and promotions by management can kill a station

Here are what I think killed Q (at least some of the things):

1. High staff turn over.
2. Syndicated morning show. Syndicated (with but one or two exceptions) does not win in Meridian. Never has, never will.
3. Lack of promotion (more on that in another post later).
4. Personality of the station clashed with local ways. People are stuck in their ways and you can't force them to change what they like. It might sound like a cop out but 99% of the things we did on the air were what we were told to do by people above us (corporate).

I could come up with others if I really sat here and thought about it... however, I'm running late for a dinner date. And, again, I will have more to say on this later.

Just another cheap channel and Urban Radio screw up.How in the heck can you take a heritage station like Q101 and
screw it in the ground.oh, but i forgot, that's how they do business.Idiots....

I was driving through the Queen City today and got to listen to 95.1. They are running liners with a female voice stating that as the Q turns 29, the listerners have grown up and it's time for the Q to do so soon. Expect the flip sometime Monday. From what they where playing expect an upbeat dance/retro hits format.

I seriously doubt they will be playing the same music come monday. Why would you playing 70s 80s and early 90s music all weekend long and promote to listen monday for a new Q. Nothing they can do will save this station, especially with the personalities they will have on after Monday. After a year is up when the LMA is over for Urban, expect another change.....So sad!

Maybe they could play Holladay(pun intended) by Madonna all day to salute Mr.Holladay.(Now that's funny)He and New South own Meridian,Remember They are paid for.But here's a free suggestion for Q.Go Hot Hits ,heavy 12-24 (ha)call it something like Puberty 95.Yep,you're right when that LMA ends Urban will be done in Meridian.Maybe all those players could go to Natchez and TRY to compete with the Perkins dynasty..They'd get blown out quicker than a New York governor.

The talent they have now wasnt that bad...wonder if anyone will be back on Monday?
