WJDQ (Q101) MERIDIAN MOVING TO 95.1

The talent they "Had" moved away a few years ago. I wouldn't concider anyone that was on that station except for maybe the night voicetracked guy having any talent.

I'm going to wait to see the final format before I express my opinions. I'm predicting either the dance/retro format as was previously mentioned or maybe modern ac. Regardless, I don't really know if either of those would work in Meridian. It seems like the 25-54 demo either listens to urban (you wouldn't believe The Beat's's older demo numbers - I didn't at first) or country.

And with that, is it just me or are 18-34 underserved? Some might say that younger listeners only listen to rap but that's not true. The listening habits are varied to rock and pop and also to country. Also, they also don't fill out many diaries but that's just my opinion based on the 18-34 intab over the years (almost non-existant). I think the last book I was at Q the intab for 18-34 was less than 20. Actually, it may have been less than 10. I don't remember exactly but it was really low.

A top 40 (adult leaning) would work great in the market given that it is programmed RIGHT. Many people have gone away of "what you don't play can't hurt you" saying. All the BIG WIGS have been saying the opposite. While that might work in huge markets, I think with Q's downfall, we've seen that Meridian is not ready for it. For that matter,,,Meridian might never be ready for it. I can't say that I would be surprised.

It's Monday and I've traveled 1500 miles away from Meridian. Can anyone fill me in on the details as to weather the flip occured, the format and anything else that might be intresting regarding this event?

Thanks

I don't mean to upset you Fussy,,,but if this bores you so much why do you reply on a topic that we might think is interesting.

I was referring to the station itself.

Me and Lee left that station right in the nick of time. The writing was all over the wall and we got out.

Oh, shut the HELL up, Marcus. You were asked to leave, don't try to put it off as anything else. You didn't "see" jack, as far as "writing all over any (the) wall."

Actually Indie,,,you don't have your facts straight. Marcus was asked to leave due to budget cuts on Q but was hired back for part time duties by Lee Taylor. When Urban took over both Lee and Marcus did walk out. Marcus had a job with Okk while Lee jumped to V 93.5.

OK Aaron, let's calm down now and not let this get out of hand. All I said was the writing was up there. That cluster was run down and needed huge departmental change. And I was glad to be one that got out before it crashed. And Aaron, you voicetracked from St. Louis, so you have no idea what really happened. But as far as everything else goes, I was just making the statement that the station was just mismanaged. This is an opinion board after all.
But thanks for caring so much Aaron that you come back and visit our Mississippi board.

Heh. Who knows. The term "program director" means nothing to Cumu... I mean, Urban Radio Broadcasting. They micromanage from the like you wouldn't believe. Besides, why should heretage mean anything to them? They're just some people from out of town who decided to play radio in a small town.

Where is marcus working?

Last I heard Marcus was in promotions for Jack FM in Jackson. Not sure if he's still there.

Actually Jonathon, you are correct. I am the Promotions Director for 94.7 JACK Fm. And I'm having a good time learning this side of the business. It makes it a lot easier to understand the on-air side. You recognize flaws a lot easier!

So JACK has a promotions department? Who'd a thunk?!?!?!

Aren't you the same fella that walks around the ball park having those "duh huh" converstaions with the booth announcer between innings?
