WJER Move? ETA?

Anyone wanna guess on how long it'll be before CC moves 101.7 North? My guess is another year...
CC might want to extend the reverse LMA with former WJER owner Gary Petricola; That way CC gets all of their money back before it's moved North! he he he

ChickenFeed, if that is true that ClearChannel would basically get WJER for free, then they look like geniuses in the end. Unbelievable. What's the vibe in the Tornado City? Does anyone care anymore since news of the purchase/takeover happened so long ago?

Not sure what the vibe is; Haven't seen nor heard anything in a long time. Guess Dover city council talked about it some time ago, but all agreed that it was a business decision & basically nothing can be done.
Honestly I don't know anyone that listens to them; I know most of Tusc. Co. listens to country music, and since WTUZ offers the same info. as WJER (news, sports, etc.) I don't think they'll be missed at all (just my opinion of course)....
It'll be interesting if WTUZ picks up WJER-AM 1450; I bet Ed S. would love to get his hands on it!

Ahhh...WTUZ has always done very well (country format), but in the past few Tuscarawas county ratings, WJER-FM has done very, very well...right on TUZ' heels (I'm serious). WJER AM, like most AMs, pulls an older audience but they are in the top 6 or 7 stations in their county.

It's very difficult for radio fans, even other announcers/d.j.'s to use their personal tastes and accurately judge reality (i.e.: "....I don't listen, so nobody listens to them...". We all have our personal opinions, but they're just that: opinions...not always the real world.

And, though it could change, the CC takeover and move of the FM is not confirmed yet.

Thanks for the info.; I'd like to see those ratings numbers...Last numbers I looked at the WJER numbers were really bad (WHBC was listened to more than WJER at one point--and that was in Tusc. Co.)
In regards to the CC takeover I don't see CC spending all of their $$$ and leaving the station in Tusc. Co.; Too much money to make in Stark and surrounding counties. Just another opinion of course...;)

I'm willing to bet if CC could get their $4.6 million (or so) back, they'd love to.

Dover-New Philly is a beautiful area, and Canton is a nice area...but, that's a LOT of $$$ for a class A FM in the...what...102nd market.

There have always been some fluctuation in the numbers in Tuscarawas County because of the low numbers of diaries sent and received. However WTUZ has remained #1 in the county in every book since 1991. If I remember correctly WJER FM has ranged anywhere from #2 to #5 in the county during that span.

Nice article in the Times Reporter today about the move; Here's a quote from By LEE MORRISON, T-R Business Editor:

"Clear Channel’s filing stated the company intends to seek a construction permit for a facility at North Canton. However, the construction timetable is up to three years. The FCC ruling states that within 90 days of the effective date of the order, Clear Channel must submit the construction permit to the FCC. The action does not authorize a change in the station’s transmitter location.

The relocated station would cover 100 percent of the Canton urban area.

The only objection to the move filed with the FCC was a letter from area resident Edward J. Cox II. Because of procedural guidelines, the FCC did not include the letter in its decision making process. Nor did it consider a petition of opposition by 12 Dover residents, which was filed past the deadline for comments.

Based on paperwork filed supporting the move and criteria established in prior FCC cases, the agency stated, “We conclude that the public interest would be served” by the change."

Did WJER-AM rank in the books at all? Just wondering....

At least OMW gets respect here ;)

Hey, someone's gotta like me somewhere.

:D

(Thanks, guys!)

I'll have to scoot down to 22nd off Whipple and get a new picture. That site was REALLY opening up when the OMW Mobile was down there over the weekend. A LOT of trees have been taken out.

Judging by the quick work, the answer to the original question here would appear to be "sometime before the end of 2006", weather permitting...

Don't you mean OMW Mobile Unit 1? ;D

npquaker - how soon is very soon? Say within the next two weeks? Let me say for the last time how sad it is to see WJER FM leave the Tuscarawas Valley. Thanks to Gary P. and the rest of the staff that over the years have worked hard to make WJER "THE VOICE OF THE VALLEY". It was done with class (I didn't always agree with the way things were done), but it was a first rate station for its market size. Best of luck to Gary and everyone else at world wide headquarters.

Scroll up and read newsgeek.. OMW says by the end of the year. NO WTUZ IS FIRST RATE.

And as noted frequently on OMW, it does appear Mr. Petricola is (at least for the short term) hanging onto AM 1450, even after 101.7 officially joins the CC Akron/Canton cluster.

We keep hearing rumors from just about everyone down there that he's jonesing to go back into the FM game, though his only option, basically, would be to buy WNPQ/95.9.

Each time that gets brought up, people who know the market in D/NP tell us "no way, as long as Jim Natoli is still alive". Mr. Natoli apparently A) has no desire to sell 95.9 and even if he did, B) would not sell it to a buyer that took it out of the Canton market.

As long as Jim Natoli is alive (and that could be many more years), NPQ is going nowhere. Malone college has approached him many times in the past few years about donating it to the college, but when the attorneys start talking, Natoli backs off. Personally, I think he just enjoys getting all of those free meals from perspective buyers. All kidding aside 95.9 will stay right where its at until Natolis death. Then, his only heir (a niece) will probably get whatever she can for it.

The Donnies in Alliance have approached NPQ a few times from what I understand. However, it will be interesting to see what shakes out of the South Market Tree. I really dont see Nextmedia sticking around much longer with the rumor of their latest purchase in the South.

It would be nice to see Saga in town. They love radio and what its all about. Plus they have been wanting to grow in Ohio for a while.
