WJPA, the way radio used to be

Bottom line is even if playing "Dandy" was the worst mistake they've ever made, it was two minutes and five seconds out of the broadcast day on a music-intensive station.

I have posted this before about WJPA. It's a station that is owned and operated by a local broadcaster, run and staffed by local broadcasters who know that they are doing and they SERVE there local community. Washington Pa is loyal to the statioin and the station has remained loyal to the county. I imagne the people who work for WJPA are proud to do so..and rightfully so. It;s a solid, well run operation.

I like WJPA. That said, the question no one is asking, and should be asking (although it's probably less
important for WJPA than it is for, say, 3WS) is: How many people besides the caller really want to hear
"Dandy"?

Requests can be a sort of tyranny in which the caller, aided by the DJ, inflicts his musical desire on the
audience. My favorite song from 1970 might be "Go Back" by Crabby Appleton, but I am about the only
person left who wants to hear it.

I'm currently having dinner at a Chili's and they just played Crabby Appleton....

You're a captive audience. I heard "Sleeping Satellite" by Tasmin Archer in a drugstore the other day, and I
wouldn't recommend that one, either. :)
