WJSE changes again??

This time to mainstream rock. The ACE" Look for those morning guys to surface on FRANK FM Reading/Suburban Philly. They should do good on a decent signal.
Rumor? Reality?

Real sad.....WJSE was once a great alternative rock station until Access 1 took over.......I used to love going to the shore and having the choice of listening to either WJSE or WDOX.....Now they are both gone.
______________

We had something good to listen to down in Atlantic City - especially during the AM hours, when WJSE did their nightly new music block. Now another one bites the dust. I knew Access1 wasn't going to give this format a fair shot - as it was they screwed it up by throwing on the likes of AC/DC and Guns N' Roses occasionally when they were Alternative. To say the least, I am disappointed. Expect this station to fall WAY down in the ratings - they're nuts if they think they can compete head on with WZXL. When the deal went through, it sounded like Al Parinello was confident that the station would remain intact - so much for that.

It is still a pretty hard station and they play tons of new music WZXL would never touch, so they're not really head on with ZXL.

I don't think there will be much of a change in the ratings. They can't go much lower, but the Active Rock format isn't going to improve much on Alternative either. What will matter, from Access.1's perspective, is that this station will take ZXL down a few pegs in the process. ZXL listeners who want mainstream rock will put 102.7 on their presets and not worry about hearing all the unfamiliar and less agressive stuff 102.7 used to play. Alternative listeners will turn to satellite, Internet, and iPods.

I went to their webpage and noticed that they listed Sevendust as one of their core artists, and breathed a sigh of relief. When I heard the "Mainstream Rock" tag, I thought "Oh great, another ZXL or maybe an MMR for Atlantic City", but it seems to be something more than that.

Good point - I suppose Access1's repositioning of 102.7 as "The Ace" may attract some ZXL listeners who are sick of hearing that station pass Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel off as rock artists, which in turn may boost sister station WMGM's (103.7 The Shark) ratings share in the process. There isn't any playlist or online broadcast that I know of, but I'm guessing that the format may sound similar to the old station (minus the likes of The Killers, Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand of course) and maybe some additional mainstream rock acts thrown in. Only time will tell if this move will work, but the fact that they were playing GNR and AC/DC should have been a sign of things to come - I for one can't say I'm too surprised with the change.

Did you try hitting the button that says:

You'd be guessing right.

A midday Ace sample hour from yes.com:

Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
Flys - Got You Where I Want You
Bush - Greedy Fly
Hinder - Get Stoned
Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder
Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
Silverchair - Tomorrow
Shinedown - I Dare You
Metallica - Sad But True
Aerosmith - Back In The Saddle
Tool - Lateralus
Nirvana - Polly
Staind - For You

Not very current, but any station playing Tool in middays (and not even Sober or Schism) is probably hard enough to distinguish itself from WZXL.

I don't really like the "Ace" name. I get the gambling reference, but it doesn't really flow off the tongue well.

A low point for 102.7 The Ace

On a programming note - the station sounds just as I expected, but I heard a really awful song that made me question the direction the station is taking. They just dusted off the cheesy hair rock nugget "Smooth Up In Ya" by BulletBoys. I really hope they don't play too much of this god-awful cornball rock, as I think it will cause a lot of people to tune out.

Flows better than J-S-E or Digital 102.7 or Z-X-L. Certainly easier to remember and write down.
