WJXN, WRTM and other Jackson radio stuff

Sorta. Edward St. Pe owned WJXN AM 1450 in Jackson, WJXN 92.9 in Utica, WJNS 92.1 in Yazoo City as a simulcast and I think for a while WCSP 590 in Crystal Springs. Several years ago WMDC (WDXO) 100.9 in Hazelhurst swapped frequencies with WJXN 92.9. and 100.9's tower was moved closer to Jackson. The stations were eventually sold to Willis Communications if I'm not mistaken, who basically ruined them. WJXN AM and WCSP went silent and WJXN FM and WJNS were sold. WJNS is now all day Jimmy Swaggart

Yep. I listened to "The Heat" when I was a student at Hind's Junior College. It didn't get into Jackson very well so it didn't last long. They eventually went to simulcasting WJXN AM. For a short while WOAD AM simulcast over 92.9 but they pulled the plug because people were complaining that they couldn't pick it up on FM.

Signal may be been terrible but I listened to the Yazoo City side of the simulcast up in the delta because the music was better than most other stations. It can still hear the station drops in my head. A few years ago I found a clip of the station I had recorded on cassette. What service did the format? That was one thing I never knew. They did carry abc hotmix on weekends.

It may not mean much, but I found a Facebook posting on the former Jack FM fan club page from June 25 in which someone posted a rumor that Jack FM will take over 100.9 in a month. Of course, it's just a rumor, but it would be interesting to see if this happens.

There is another rumor that New South Radio (aka The Radio People) has negotiated a lease of WJXN-FM. Also rumor has it that soon it will flip to Smooth Jazz. There are a lot of people like what they are hearing and would give their eye teeth to keep what they are hearing.

I asked on a facebook page "Keep WJXN 100.9's format AAA" about the rumor about the Radio People leasing WJXN-FM

Richard Lewis Where did you hear this info about WJXN-FM being leased by New South Radio

Keep WJXN 100.9's format AAA From a friend in radio. They admit they have the lease but are keeping the planned format a secret.

Until it is confirmed by the Radio People, this still tends to be a rumor.
