WKAT question

After reviewing the ratings I noticed that WKAT is not there. I like the station but obviously they are doing something wrong. What would you do to get them to show up in Arbitron? You can't change the hosts however.

Get them involved in the local community.

If you look at ultra-leftist WINZ's web site, it looks like HQ for the Democrat party, Moooooove-on, and all the extreme left causes you can imagine.

Both stations have 100% extremist syndicated talk, with no connection to Florida except the news broadcasts and the commercials.

Of course you can barely hear WKAT in Broward. WINZ goes much further.

BTW, WKAT is looking for part-time unpaid sales interns. Gotta be kidding.

How to increase WKAT's audience size:

Write Congress and ask for even stronger indecency regulation, which would ban any language stronger than "Gosh-diddly-darn!" and make any risque comments or innuendo punishable by life imprisonment. This would silence Rush Limbaugh and any edgy conservative hosts, and any remaining would be told by their employers to be no more entertaining than the priggish, droning Salem hosts.

Persuade the Congress to outlaw local programming on news-talk stations, as it
would increase the possibility of inadvertent indecency without central control from a distant city. This would knock out WIOD's advantage in morning drive.

Simultaneously translate all WKAT programming into Spanish, so that it reaches its natural audience in the Miami region -- Cuban exiles in guayaberas and floral print dresses over the age of 65.

Use Amy Grant songs as bumper music.

One serious suggestion: Steal Sean Hannity from WIOD by offering to carry it live.

On the Salem pay scale, that would be about right.

I know radio is a hard business but sheesh! I mean, there has to be a way a station can increase it's numbers. My guess is that WKAT isn't interested in making a MAJOR impact in South Florida, they just want to make an impact and make a little money. I have worked for Salem in the past and I do know that they are a good company to work for (at least toward me they were). They want to make money AND, maybe, change the world for the better. Is that such a bad thing? I think not. Frankly, our culture could use a better moral base...but, alas, that is a discussion for another board.

Blah, blah... we've had this discussion over and over. Salem owns radio stations as real estate and pays the bank notes by selling national spots via SRN and locally by whoring out the entire weekend.

I'm sure their "moral impact" includes hawking fraudulent colon detox products paid for by other companies trying to change the world for the better.

Re: Merry Christmas and a Clean Colon

When Salem was first buying the station, there was a message posted on this forum to the effect that they have every intention of increasing their power substantially and diplexing onto the towers of a directional AM. I would tell you which station that would be, but it is pretty unbelievable. Go look a few months back in the Miami forum and see what you can find.
______________

When I saw how many dozens of postings include WKAT, I decided to wait for you to unveil the unbelievable secret.

Or is that a hint?

Unbelievable = WQAM Neil Rogers?

Nah, QAM is not directional. I went back and tried to find the post. My teachers instilled in me the importance of a good bibliography. No such luck, it is burried a kilometer deep. WINZ 940 has seven towers of which three were used in the day untill they went ND a few years ago and six are used nocturnally. They are here. I think the plan calls for KAT to use four of them at night and I don't know about the day, but fifty kilowatts and probably away from 1380 in WPB.
