WKFL Bushnell

"It's worth whatever someone will pay for it" applies to everything, not just radio stations, so that doesn't tell us much. These prices are pretty far from what Cox thinks it is worth, but that is not surprising at all. This one is heading for the scrap heap.

Go back and re-read what I wrote. You will see that is exactly what I said in that what anyone is willing to pay applies to everything. If Bruce Cox can locate someone willing to pay him $800,000 for WKFL, then I wish him well.

WKFL, Bushnell is back on the air, and they power seems to be reduced, just as it was a month or two ago, when they were on the air for several weeks. Same format ..... sports (satellite feed), missed the TOH i.d., so I don't know if they are still mentioning Orlando in their legal i.d. or not.

WKFL is probably off the air now or will be soon - Sporting News Radio changed satellite receivers today so the signal will likely go away soon.

I will have to check that out, when I'm in that area this weekend. It was on the air this past Friday - Sunday, but as previously stated, the reception seems to indicate that they are not running at full power, coming from the south, the signal doesn't even stop in the scan mode until about 1/4 mile south of the southern city limits on U.S. 301 (Main St), just a few miles south of the city limits the reception isn't strong and there's static; it also sounded at times as though they were transmitting slightly off frequency. (i.e. 1169 or 1171). If they are in fact running a full 1,000 watts, then that transmitter is shot and needs to be replaced; it's as though they running about 100 watts.

st. pete

btw- while in that area this past weekend; I noticed that 1240 out of Eustis was back on the air, with a Spanish language format and the 1340 out of Clermont was running classical music w/o any liners or station i.d.

1240 is simulcasting 1600 out of Ocoee. 1340 was a travel channel owned by Westgate Resorts so that is a change.

Talked to a local engineer who knows about WKFL - he says they are running a small nighttime transmitter with about 100 watts, so you are right on the money on that one.

Hope someone's turning 1340 into something better than a travel loop. (Also hoping this jello sticks to the wall I threw it at.)

I believe WWFL 1340 was used to promote time-shares awhile back. I would think a town the size of Clermont would benefit greatly by having its own local "hometown" radio voice. There are certainly enough local businesses there to support the station.

OK Walters is right; got up here around 5:30 and WKFL 1170 Bushnell.......is silent yet again............. and 1340 out of Clermont. continues to play classical music without any i.d.'s or ads or station liners during the 10 minutes I listened

Clermont is a growing and vibrant city and one would think the 1340 there could be more than it is and has been.

When did WKFL go off the air again? It could be Bruce is making transmitter repairs to get the station back to 1kw since 1170 was operating at low power.

It went off the air sometime between Sunday (the 12th) and yesterday (Friday the 17th).

As OK Walters indicated in a post on the prior page (3) of this thread, he was expecting this.

This station has been a trainwreck at least the last 3 years that I'm aware of (probably longer than that); it's off the much more than it's on the air; when it's on the air apparently satellite feeds get mixed up as there have been several "format" changes in one weekend; it might be gospel for a few hours and then 22 minutes past the hour become ESPN sports. I seriously doubt that anyone in Bushnell listens to it or even knows of it's existance since it's off the air at least 60 - 70 percent of the time.

Word out there now is he has found another investor/sucker who is going to throw a pile of money at Cox's promises. Add another investor to the long list of losers.

Hopefully he will invest the new capital into WKFL and do what it takes to make 1170 a viable and successful radio station.

1) Re WKFL: There is a new-to the station- transmitter in the process of being installed and the audio chain is being cleaned up at the same time. Any intimation that there is anything improper in terms of financial management as it pertains to WKFL is unfounded. I can attest to the the speculators as to the status of things financial at WKFL that between the accounting system and accountant and the management checks and ballances between management and funder that there are none of the alledged improprieties that have been alledged. It is easier to be paid by "public sector" clients than it is by these folks who operate their financial operation with a military precision that requires more documentation with invoicing than any "private sector" operation I have ever seen. This I know since I am on the receiving end. One engineering person although fully paid decided against doing any further work because of the paperwork burden necessary with invoicing. I can't speculate on format but I can say that until the RF plant is in perfect condition there won't be any word since no one on the corporate level want's any false starts.

2) Re WFHT: Lots of electrical noise in Sebring and a sick Omnia (and possibly modulator issued with the transmitter) have been the cause of the lack of decent reception in Sebring. Reading the signal with an FIM-41 indicated that it was textbook perfect as to signal strength being where it was supposed to be. Audio won't peak over 85% positive peaks. Multiple lightening hits have taken their toll on the audio processing and possibly the modulation section of the Harris-Gates ONE but with the install of new protection and a new audio processor which was ordered for the talk format and spanking new studio equipment as a bonus along with the plan to replace the transmitter if necessary with a new unit there should be a marked improvement in audio strength and overall performance within the next couple of weeks. Station is doing really well under new owner Dave McCoy. Possibility of an FM translator being purchased before next summer

3) Re WFHT: I was doing some contract work and overseeing the operation at WFHT for Odyssey/Michael Cardillo. Bruce Cox did attempt to purchase the station from Odyssey/Michael Cardillo a couple of years ago..He had a committment from a finance broker for the full amount but only got enough for the DP which is why he is not there. There are two sides to every situation and sometimes without the full story and insight into what transpired it is easy to draw incorrect/improper conclusions.

Really? The station has been foreclosed on and there are two mortgages that have not been paid on in years - I know one of the mortgage holders and he is out about $300-400K just on this deal with Cox. Please explain the link below if there is nothing "improper" - one lawsuit is an eviction from the studio site and the other is the foreclosure by the second mortgage holder.

Or how about this one? Getting sued by a bank in Illinois as well - going to trial in sixty days.

I wish them the best but the history is not good - and this isn't anywhere near all of it. There is a rumor that the first mortgage holder has now repossessed the station - is that true? I can't find anything about it but the second mortgage holder thinks that is the case for some reason.

I was referring to the WKFL operation that I am dealing with at this time and based on my experience with the WFHT purchase. BTW: I find nothing in any records source to indicate a reposession of the real property and assets by the former licensee. As they say: The decision of the judge is what counts. There could be a lot of interesting material coming out as to how things got to where they are now.

Default judgement for the first mortgage holder April 2010 - he has the instrument to repo it now it looks like

I am not a lawyer, but the first mortgage holder is and he now has a judgement so we will see what happens. Should be interesting just like you said. If that "WKFL operation" you refer to is Scott Walker, the first mortgage holder, then you should be fine. If you are working for Talknsports, it looks like trouble is on the horizon.
