WKLU Oldies Dies Tomorrow

A major radio market is one with 1 million or more listeners, a large market is one with 250,000 to 1 million listeners, a medium market has 50,000 to 250,000, and small markets have 50,000 or fewer listeners. Indianapolis IS a major market.

Then how come it doesn't sound like one?

I do not think you can make a blanket statement like that. I understand that there are some real turkey's in the market. But I think it would be more accurate to say some of the stations do not sound MM, rather than the entire market itself. Just my opinion anyway.

Actually, it's MOST important to pay the bills, whatever it takes.

True! but it is hard to do pay those bills when your radio station sounds horrible and by virtue of that, has NO listeners.

I would like to see Wcbk in martinsville flip to a rock leaning chr or hot ac, but keep the current staff and live and local, and the place to turn for emergencies... A full service chr or ac in martinsville could work just as well as country, since most people listen to wfms, hank, or wkkg for country here..... I dont think Oldies could sell here,,, maybe classic hits like wcls, but wcls has a good signal here already.

WCBK and WCLS are co-owned.

WCBK do a rock leaning format? Don't take that bet.

Even though Hank and WFMS have a good signal there they have no sales.

Their format i think has outlasted both hank and WFMS?

I don't think this would happen but I would like to see WCBK and WCLS swap formats on there freq. Don't think AC or pop would do well in Martinsville, you have to consider Martinsville is located between Bloomington and Indianapolis, and they both have a station or so kinda like that.

WCBK has a weaker signal in Bloomington than WCLS, WCBK stronger around Indpls, WCBK is nearly central located between the 2 but WCBK's rim shot may not be strongh enough to have a impact around Indpls. If they were a B1 or better maybe there would be some impact.

I'm wondering how WCLS would do at country, WCLS would have the best signal in Bloomington with country.

WCLS ran country as Cat Country WSKT 92.7 for a decade. This was before the frequency change which allowed the station better coverage in Bloomington. Mid-America apparently thought Oldies would do better. I don't imagine their revenue has changed much though. Their spot load is still pretty light.

WCBK should keep doing what they are doing. Why would they want to blow their entire audience off to go CHR? The current audience isn't going to stand for it, and a CHR audience isn't going to want to hear the small town stuff.

True, And country fans are particular. Country from WCBK is different than WFMS because of the added things that are there. More local and community involved. That's why the CHR format wouldn't fly.

I am surprised with the added non com that the Christian format hasn't moved there from Spirit and another format appeared on Spirit's channel. Especially with 10 other stations playing Christian in and around Bloomington.

Sad to see another Local Station gobbled up by the Walmart of Christian Radio.

They will have a BIG presence as their only competition will be local, WQME. I believe QME will hurt them a bit but I don't think WQME will lose any listeners. Good local always wins.

Hopefully , WQME will be able to secure a decent sized translator as that entire region is ripe for more local Christian programming

Years ago I told Mr. Michaels it would be nice if we could use the sub channels of a main HDTV station.

He said it was a good idea but batteries won't power a tuner yet, now it looks like they have small HD TV's out that is rechargeable. Now all they need is a small convertor box with a little radio transmitter, a station led display so you don't need a TV to see what station your on.

Like to see a powerful HDTV station go up between Shelbyville to Batesville and put WGRR 103.5 on it so it would be heard around Indianapolis, like on DT 17 for example...
