WKOR and WJDX Airchecks

Hey Guys,
I've started posting some air checks from WKOR and WJDX on my website. I have lots of tape to go through and most of it is of me, so I won't bore you with a lot of that. But I have found some you might be interested in. It's a work in progress, so I'll be posting air checks as I come across them. The way to get to them if you're interested is to log onto my website:
www.johnweeksaudio.com
click on "links"
On the links page click on "airchecks"

Hopefully it will work and you'll get some joy from it. There's only about 3 from WKOR up at the moment and 1 short one of me at WJDX. There will be more I promise.
Take Care,
John Weeks

Chris King's rant about The Osmonds just might've been the funniest, most candid bit I've ever heard.

Thanks for posting those. I spent much of the '70s (grade school years) in Tupelo ... and many folks know just how tight and great-sounding that city's top-40 station was. ::) ... Let's just say I pulled a few muscles in my radio's antenna to pull in WKOR. That was some world-class radio coming out of 'the triangle.'

Back to lurking....

Hi Russell,
I remember that day like it was yesterday. I'm just glad he recorded that and I was able to snag it. One of the things we used to say when we play an Osmonds record was "we wouldn't be playing this but there's so much bubble gum on the record that we can't get it off the turntable". I still get a kick from listening to that bit, even after all these years.
I'm still going through tapes and as I come to things I think might be of interest I'll post them.

Ah,to be young, have fun and be silly again on the radio. Now I just wish I thought more about what I was saying on those top of the hour crossovers. I'd at least not sound like I was beathing helium. Thanks for the blast from the past,JW.

Oldiesstation, you're right. Radio was more fun back then.
TZ, I'm not done yet. I think there are a number of cross talks between us that I can post, unless you object.
If anyone has any airchecks they'd like for me to put up on the site, feel free to email them to me. As long as I have the space available, I'll put them up.

Feel free. As long as we don't scare the children.

Medicine,
We were using the RCA 77dx mic and the reverb unit was a Fisher Spacexpander. You can still find them on ebay every now and then. I think a lot of the smaller market stations used that model. I know we did in Natchez at WNAT and WSSO was using one too.
TZ,
Will do, but I think the children should stay away for thier own good!

Hey Skinny Johnny: I've got a whole attic full of old tapes of me and Hudson from about 1980, if you want some. Problem is finding a reel-to-reel player.

all together now: "daddy, what's a reel to reel player?"

It was one of those @!$# contraptions engineers like me spent many hours repairing and alighning. Especally the air check machine or the dub machine in the prod room where all the tapes were recorded to go out with the resumes.

Hey, JW, I am about to check out your site but do you have any from WSSO?

Dr. Bob

Hey Dr. Bob,
I hope Houston is treating you well. I don't have any from WSSO on the site, but I do think I have some tape that I haven't found yet. I did see one of Jack Talley aka Jack "Da" Wack but haven't listened yet. As soon as I get to it, I'll post it. I'll also look for anything I might have of BS in the Morning!!!!
Good to hear from you.

Nice web site and nice set of air checks!

Doing fine in Houston (except for the traffic), thanks. I have an un-scoped reel in my closet of BS in the Morning and a reel machine to dub it in storage. You've motivated me to dub it to CD. As soon as I do, I'll send a copy for you to post. A Jack Talley check would be nice as would you (or anyone else) from WHKW. People from East Central Mississippi remember that station. Talk about a processing system that smoked (!)

I work less than a block from Jack and hear him on the air but I have not seen him in awhile. A did see Jared Willets, aka, Jay Christopher on a national cable spot for an insurance company a few months ago. And if you ever find a copy of the "not for air" China Star spot from P'cola, I'd LOVE to get a copy ;D I still laugh when I think about it.

Keep up the good work!

Bob

I'll look for that one. I don't know if you remember, but it was inspired by not getting paid by the client for production of their real spots and the rumors about cats disappearing near the resturant.

For some strange reason, I remember about the cats disappearing near the restaurant but had completely forgotten about the not getting paid by the client part. Strange what your memory does after a few years :)

At the sign of the cat! (growl)
