WKOR and WJDX Airchecks

I sure have enjoyed these airchecks....thanks for posting them. I've never been in the radio business, but I should have been ;).

I wish more of you guys would provide air checks, particularly from the Jackson radio market. I sure miss the old am top forty stations and the enthusiasm you guys had....the old JDX jingles have been downright nostalgic.

would love to hear air checks from WRBC, W-1, and ZZQ, too.

Sorry to bump this one up again, but I wanted to let everyone know that I just got a ton of air checks from Jay Marks aka Rodney W. Randall. Jay is an air check freak (in a good way). He has more air checks than anyone I know. He sent me a lot of stuff and I've started posting some of those. By the way prt, I have one of WRBC that Jay sent (it's posted) and another from WZZQ (not posted yet).
I hope y'all enjoy. I'll be posting more in the days to come.
Thanks!

I am diggin' on the classic airchecks, and stealing, er, re-purposing all good lines even this afternoon (on FM100, streaming at www.fm100memphis.com).

You betcha! Do you have an ftp to upload to (to dangle a participle)? If so, plz send a link to [email protected].

Hey,family show here. Don't be dangling any participles,Robert, unless it's done in moderation! Loving the added JDX airchecks,JW. The sales guy in me is appreciating all the local spots like The Prissy Hen and Bruneau's in Jackson Mall! Even heard Woody Asaaf on a spot. Was truly a different time.

Wow! I just got a chance to listen in depth to some of the stuff, especially the '72 JDX material. If someone would do something like that, today, I* would listen (even to AM)!

*(I know... nobody particularly wants listeners my age, they skew the ratings too old.)

Gads, John... I hope you don't have any old stuff of mine. I absolutely sucked in those days... ;D :D

<Back from Skinny's site>

WHAT!!!????!!! I did DDT's imaging in 1974? Dang, I don't remember that. Now I AM filled with fear... I remember putting together the WWUN imaging in 1974, but........

WJDX in the days before we were there, Bob, was abso-freakin'-lutely outstanding. I think it sounded MUCH bigger than Jackson.

If you want to put up another 50 or so of Jay, I know I won't argue. Good grief, the man was smooth- He was one of two jocks that shaped me more than anyone else on the air. Man, I could listen to him all day, all week. Simply outstanding...

Dave,
I used to have one of you at that station in Whitecastle, LA. I'll dig deep and see if I still have it. If I find it, I'll be glad to post it. By the way, I thought you and Rob sounded GOOD back then, but Rodney W Randall has always been my favorite. I listened to him when he was at KNOE-FM in Monroe before his JDX days and to top it all off he is an extremely nice guy and was so gracious in sharing his airchecks. He said he has more and will send them on when he gets some time to go through them. Send me a couple of you Dave!
Wow, before I finished writing this, you posted basically the same thing I just said, but in a condensed radio way.

Jay is a great guy! One day someone at JDX remarked that I reminded them of him, and I was very honored. I've said it MANY times before- Jay Marks had a HUGE influence on me. If you listen closely to my adult-station (as opposed to old CHR) approach, you can tell. I laughed myself silly one time (okay, that isnt' REALLY a hard thing to do) when I listened to an aircheck of myself after finding one of him at WMAQ, and noticed similar pacing, inflections, etc.

An old KEVL aircheck? I'll warn you: I know some unemployed gangsters in East Tennessee that work cheap and can find Asheville...

They'll take you to Asheville again just to make sure my post was accurate.

I still don't recall voicing any imaging for DDT... but I did notice I was on the Walt Grayson aircheck- but that sure doesn't sound anything like me now!

Dave, you knocked those out in the JDX prod room as a favor. Probably an unpaid, but greatly appreciated, favor.

And for the techno-geeks... I noticed something when playing back the WKOR Fred "Buster" Wilson aircheck from Thanksgiving, 1975. The Windows Media Player was set to "Bars And Waves" Scope setting, and it shows the two mikes, Fred's and mine, were out of phase with each other. Fred's peaked positive, and mine peaked negative. Or maybe it was me out of phase, and the mike was ok.

I keep finding things I didn't see before on the aircheck page. Listened to the Bob and Al check. Material, timing, delivery, sophistication... wow! I grieve that if a radio station were presented this today, the reaction would be, "Well, that would be two salaries... in afternoon drive... it can't be done!

Wow... On those old Sennheiser 421s... frequency response of 2000 to 3500hz... LOL

I'll take your word for it. I didn't even recognize my voice! Needless to say, nowdays, I sound VERY different. Thankfully. :D
