WKRD gets aloha'ed from Clear channel Louisville

With WKRD getting sold of out CC Louisville. what are the odds CC Moves the 790 format over to the more powerful 1080 and sends WKJK down to 790. If i was CC I would keep the sports format and send off the secondary talk station to 790

1080 WKJK just had there best book in a very long time. But that is a good question you ask, should they move sports to 1080 and talk to 790.

Can anyone say WKRD Shelbyville - Frankfort? Maybe, just maybe Forever will add this to their heap in Frankfort and put one of their really original names like "WUZZ" on the signal.

Brian is right,

It happens. About once every decade. ;)

What's the saying, even a busted clock is right twice a day?

Where you working these days, Scott? Anyone from Blue Chip still with Mainline Louisville?

I'm doing my own engineering thing. I think most of the managment structure is still there, but I don't know about anyone else. I haven't talked to anyone there in a long time.

Hey, the happiest engineers I know are working free lance. I wish you well. And hope you don't have to deal with any pain in the neck interim PDs.

As and ENG, I would have to say both 1080 and 790 have equal coverage in close, but 790 is far more open and not as super directional as 1080, even as close as the north end of Scott, Clark and Floyd Counties on the Indiana side of the river, due to 1070 in Indy....Night coverage is far more an advantage to 790...

WUZZ 101.7 - WKRD SHELBYVILLE, FRANKFORT. CLASSIC HITS THAT WUZZ!

Now I don't have to deal with PDs as a whole if you know what I mean! And yes, actually being respected for my knowledge and abilities is quite a refreshing change.

Actually, at night they both cover Louisville. And that's about it. 790's main lobe is to the northwest with smaller lobes to the south and southeast. And they reduce power to a kilowatt. 790 has 5kw during the day, however they bring the power in to the north/northeast and south/southwest. Looks like a peanut lying on it's side with bulges in the middle.

1080, otoh, sends most of it's power to the southeast, over Louisville with 10 kw and a broad lobe. At night the lobe is tightened up and they also reduce to 1 kw. FWIW, 1080 has been heard down in North Georgia and South Carolina at night. Both stations night patterns are about equal, just going in different directions over Louisville. The last time I checked, you can't hear either station at the Snyder and 71 at night, they are that tight.

How's this...Clear Channel sells WKRD-AM to WAKY-FM's owners, who change the calls to WAKY-AM, simulcast the Oldies (and keep the Louisville Bats and U Of L major sports) on 790. WAKY's back on 790!!

And then I woke up...

I like that idea a LOT!

But then again, I'm the guy who runs www.79WAKY.com. :)

Let me make a third on the motion. Besides, what else are you going to do with the frequency? The daytime signal is a monster but the night time signal hardly covers today's population.
