WKRN

WSMV is now even more obsessed with moving graphics. Unimportant stuff continually flies in and out. Every story seems to have some sort of full screen graphic. The techs still can't seem to keep up with getting names right. And, the moving/spinning top pointing to the bottom screen graphis is hideous.

Hope you weren't involved in selecting that graphics package, Doug.

Well WSMV had to make a quick move when they heard WKRN and Fox were going HD. And it's funny how WSMV has light blue lights on there set too just like Fox I wonder who got the idea first.

I don't mind the new graphics on WSMV. At least they changed them to match the new set. Fox 17's graphics look exactly the same, looks like they just converted them to HD. With all the dark wood, the set looks too cold to me.. And what is with the paperclip looking like things in the background behind the anchors?

I'm in the group Watt was talking about. I noticed the color on 4 and thought it was 'cool' during the weather. I noticed Channel 2's news and the Munchak show Tuesday had big black bars on either side. Is that because it's not HD?
None of that bothers me like the anchor on 5 tonight (Rory?) talking about the meeting in sumer county and going to their reporter in HENDERSON? How long does he have to be here? And a couple of the reporters who can't deliver a story without moving their arms as if they're directing a band. Good grief...give me good news (and does it all happen in Clarksville and Murfreesboro) and I'll put up with whatever you have going on around the anchors.

Yes.

Well, to be picky about it, not because it's not HD but because it's not widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio. It is possible to do narrowscreen 4:3 HD (although most of our equipment won't do it) and to do widescreen 16:9 SD. (which we have done)

But usually yes, HD and widescreen go together.

Forget all the fancy sets and give some of these reporters a clothing allowance. I have never in my life seen such hideous dress on live tv. Channel 4 has the most followed by 17!
But wait, if that is corrected, me and the wife will no longer have this to laugh at, so maybe on second thought, keep the set cause the clothing choices sure clashes with it!

WKRN did the same thing on last night's 10pm...Bob Mueller tossed it to a new field reporter covering
the death of two infants. She also opened and closed the piece (recorded I believe) with "here in Henderson"...when again...the city in question was Hendersonville. Seems like role reversal...as the
talent seems to auditioning in Nashville for a move to Bowling Green.

The stations might also consider a little training on how to work a stick mic closer when there's ambient noise. Yes, there's more screen exposure for the reporter when the mic's at waist level but the audio is crappy.

They must have been reading from the 1992 (or thereabouts) white pages, first year I was living here. Hendersonville was listed as "Henderson" on the front of that year's white pages. Never mind that Henderson is not only long distance from Nashville, but is in a different area code (901 at the time).

This is actually a very good comment ... I don't know if it's lack of style or lack of interest in anchor wardrobe but Nashville has gone to a dated look. Problem here is yes I'm referring to the women so automatically that makes me prejudice I guess. I see some of the sub anchors on 5 dressing better than main anchors anywhere (Amanda Hara for starters)...but the troubling thing is Demetria does get wardrobe provided by...someplace. I don't think it's fair to pick on the anchors...not all of them are reading women's wear daily, but Nock's point is with all the consultants hired to work on the product (story count, story time, pacing etc) and the set people and lighting people and $30,000 HD field cameras and remotes trucks etc etc., pretty amazing wardrobe CONSULTANTS aren't brought in to help with dress AND hairstyles. Some good talent could be maximized in their appeal.

Well it's finally here.

Only sad part of the debut, no Bob Mueller, instead John Dwyer.

No offense, but to me, it's like when FOX 17 debuted it's new set with Erica Kurre, IT MAKES NO SENSE. ???

Mueller has been on Channel 2 for years, he and Anne Holt should've started the inaugral broadcast together considering how long they

have both been on the station.

It looks ok, but nowhere near as good as Channel 4 or 5's set.

I fail to see what difference it makes WHO gets to sit on the HD set first. It's more important that they finally got one. What's REALLY sad is that they were YEARS behind channels 4 and 5 in getting HD, and even beaten to the punch by Fox 17!

actually, it's amazing that they got the funding to do the upgrade at all...Young has been operating in
bankruptcy for quite a while. FWIW...I like the new look...glad they avoided the frosted glass and goofy brick fireplace motif.
And it seems obvious they tweaked it before going on-air...very few glitches, and none of the lighting hazards WZTV launched with.
for extra bonus points...google KRON and see how Young flushed that station (losing NBC affiliation along the way)

Any of this affect channel 2.2? It was funny seeing their extended forecast for temps in the 90s this week! ;D

The reason is that I thnk it's as historic in a lot of ways; similar to when stations went from b/w to color.

You would figure they would put their A teams respectivly for this occasion, at least that's how I feel.

On the other hand if things go wrong, best to get the kinks out away from your moneycasts.
