WKRP In Cincinnati FINALLY coming out on DVD!

Finally, WKRP In Cincinnati is rescued from VHS purgatory and will be released on DVD on April 24th by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Not sure if the episodes will contain the original copyrighted music as played by Dr. Johnny Fever("Old Time Rock N Roll" by Bob Seger on the Episode "Pilot Part 2" is one example)or the awful over-dubs as found in some of the syndicated cuts. BTW, 20th Century Fox owns the rights to all of MTM's old TV shows, so most of the MTM shows like "The Bob Newhart Show" and "The White Shadow" have recently dropped on DVD as well. I remember reading once that 'KRP wasn't filmed but instead taped due to an old rule that stated that if you taped you didn't have to pay royalties to use copyrighted music, but if your show was filmed you did. So, Cincinnati can finally rejoice! A piece of broadcast history will hit DVD, as it should have years ago.

The film vs. tape thing on WKRP had nothing to do with any rule. It was a matter of the expense of obtaining the rights to all the music meant they had to cut costs somewhere, thus cheaper videotape. rather than film.

Thanks for that info on the videotape VS. film and music issue. Now, I just hope that the DVD release contains all of the original, uncut episodes as they aired on CBS from 1978-82 and not the horrible cut versions that aired in syndication, especially when it ran on TNN in early 2001. The only syndicated version of 'KRP I saw that wasn't cut too bad was when it aired on E! back in the mid-90s, as well as when it aired on WSYX Channel 6-Columbus back in 1992(That version included the still picture of the cast that had the announcer saying "WKRP In Cincinnati will be back after this!").

That will be fun to see. I was in the audience for the show that Hoyt Axton guest starred as Jennifer's boyfriend.

That episode, entitled "I Do, I Do...For Now" is episode 21 and is a part of the first season episodes, you'll be happy to know :)

Oh this really makes me wanna do a little dance!!! I adore this show!!!

"All it's gonna take is your complete co-operation, absolute secrecy, and twenty live turkeys."

"No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this!"

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
