WKVL gets translator @ 101.3 FM

While WECO does have a CP to decrease its power from 3500 to 1650 Watts, it will increase its HAAT from 771 to 1040 feet; so I'm guessing there will be little if any decrease in coverage. Also the new tower will be closer to Wartburg (and Knoxville). I see WECO's biggest problems being the translators. In addition to Blount County, there is also a translator on 101.3 running the full 250 watts in the Oak Ridge/Clinton area (about 25 miles South of Wartburg) How that ever happened, I'll never know.

WHAT??! I can't believe WECO would sell out. They are a good station serving the needs of their community. The only thing I'd do WECO is take the FM fully live again. Station had plenty of listeners in the county when they were live. And I considered Wartburg a hell-hole place to run country: You had iHeart breathing down one side of your neck with the highly rated US-101 out of Chattanooga less than 90 miles away and WGSQ out of Cookeville even closer, and the all-but-invincible WIVK Knoxville breathing down the other side of your neck... but I heard almost no one in the area listening to them, they were all listening to WECO. Ed Knight has done very well at WECO, can't understand why he'd give it up. I hope it doesn't happen. I have many fond memories of that great little station formed over the 19 years that I jocked there.

WIVK isn't as invincible as they used to be. The 12-plus ratings, instead of being in the 30s, are now as low as they can be and still be two digits.

I believe that translator in Oak Ridge is on 101.1. However it still is gonna cause interference and I'm not sure why they allowed that one.

Correct the WYSH translator is at 101.1. Strangely it's licensed to Oak Ridge but barely has a signal there, I believe the antenna is on the WYSH towers in Clinton or really close to them. There is also a LPFM in east Knoxville on 101.1.

WKVL has now split from WGAP and WLOD. The "Genuine Country" format continues on WGAP and WLOD, but now "Real Country" is on WKVL and the 101.3 translator. According to them, "Real Country" is apparently all '90s.

As for my take on it, I do like '90s country, but they are playing the same selections as Duke-FM. If they are going to try to compete directly with a real FM signal, I think they need to open it up to songs that are not on Duke.
