WLFE 102.3 St Albans

Alice doesn't even count. They might legitimately be the worst station that ever entered the market. The jocks were cheesy, the contesting sucked (they gave away scratch tickets as their major promotion...I kid you not), and they played too many stiffs.

I also note that a lot of people here like to bag on Northeast/Champlain. My experience has been quite good.

Oh c'mon, Zeb, are you really going to say you don't enjoy working there (while you are working there)? NE Broadcasting and it's owner especially has quite the reputation...and it isn't a good one. Each and every person I have met that has worked for that company tells the same crazy stories.

Quite a sloppy start for Rock 102. I tuned in this morning to hear the new morning show, Todd N Tyler. First, I have never heard of these guys. It was a "best of" so their topical live shows might be better---but what I heard wasn't very good. Besides that, it was a very sloppy morning. The last song of the 5am hour faded out after about a minute to hit network news (that needs to be fixed---sounds terrible to do that). Also, top of the hour network news on a rocker???? Just sounded very weird. Most likely they have a contract they have to honor. After the news the TNT show was joined mid-sentence. Obviously a timing issue. In addition to all that, the commercials from their home station were being played all morning. Obvisouly there were some major automation problems. I understand that this is their first full day on the air so there will be some kinks that need to be worked out. But the first day and first impressions are VERY important. They really should have had someone there babysitting the automation to cut off the out of market commercials---instead entire breaks had out of market commercials and the imaging from their home station.

If I wasn't having a good experience here I wouldn't have brought it up.

Obviously I wouldn't slag the company I work for and attach my name to it, but the only reason I feel like defending the company is that in my experience it honestly really and truly doesn't suck.

Is it perfect? No. No company I've ever worked for is perfect, not even CBS in San Francisco where I was an AFTRA member.

About the owner, yeah he can run hot. But I've been here for over 3 years now, and in that time I've had exactly two conversations with him that I would characterize as unpleasant. Both were ratings related. Both times he had reason to be unhappy.

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that I would have had more trouble at most ANY other company.

I'm sure I have a lot of faults that I can't see, but lack of candor isn't one of them.

Wow, sounds like things didn't go smooth. Todd n Tyler have a great show that isn't usual the morning zoo. They don't do stupid human tricks or prank calling and they will tell you that the best of shows are the shows that sucked the least.
However, they have a podcast for the past week of shows that you can get off of iTunes and some funny cartoons of the show on YouTube that go back a couple years. The cartoons and podcast can be found at www.tntradioempire.com .

I don't know what it is. A couple red flags pop up for me regarding their morning show. First, it is based out of Omaha, Nebraska. NEBRASKA! I mean c'mon...NEBRASKA. A show syndicated out of market 72. Just sends those red flags flying. Yes, Burlington is a smaller market but syndicating a show nationally (even though they don't have many affiliates) out of market 72 screams delusional to me. Second, the Todd N Tyler "plant" here says they aren't the typical morning zoo. I don't know. It just seems as though they were trying too hard not to be the typical morning show. But they were a little too "yucker and puker". Who knows, maybe their "best of" material didn't convey the typical show.

Please accept my apologizes. I found this thread from a Google search and thought I could contribute. I am a fan of the show and was excited to learn of the new affiliate.

If it's the same Dick.Payne, I think he is or has been employed by The Empire, which probably should have been disclosed.

I'm Dave from tntu.net, the official unofficial fan site of The Empire. Sounds like there were some technical problems the first week.

What's the latest Burlington opinion of the show since "the boys" have been back a couple of days?

hey Guys *and girls ;)
I get 102.3 From sheffield Heights all the way to Jay peak with lots of of trouble fighting kiss 102.3 and here I am staying in Montgomery VT at a ski lodge for the night comes in not too bad here in the back side of Jay. Have they increased the wattage yet?
I can;t imagine if they have not how much it will Boom here up towards jay all the way route 100, 14 and route 5 to sheffield heights on I-91 (exit 25)
Kiss 102.3 comes in too strong past that towards lyndonville

They still seem to be having those technical problems. Tuned in this morning to see how these guys are live and again the automation kept with the raw network feed. Promos, imaging, commercials from their home station. Just sounds so bad. Automation isn't rocket science.

In terms of the actual show it is pretty bad. Yes, I laughed once or twice but there are a lot of old cliches and yucker/puker sort of stuff. One that stood out was the old "i can hear the radios clicking off as we speak" line refering to something boring someone was talking about. It just sounds like they are trying way too hard to be "cool."

No excuse for automation problems. Put the PD in the control room if the computer doesn't work properly. Let him run the board. It's not like he needs to be there all afternoon to do airchecks.

No website either, and they've been on the air for 2 weeks. Whomever runs the Northeast Burlington cluster might be legitimately retarded.

Wow,
Last time i heard this station it was country. Now i flick it on and its the best rock station ive ever heard. Blows all the others outa the water.

I agree....just wish the signal was better, but I hear that's changing soon as well...this is a good thing for our market!

I have talked to a few college kids who attend my school. I really like what they play and apparently they do to! Keep up the good work. IMHO I hope they can look into a translater here for st J/Lyndonville ;)

Once again, I trash a Champlain website, and it gets fixed. I'm good. It's been updated with added content, including the following gem:

Real website coming soon, so quit yer bitchin'.

What are they, the Wizard? Is Burlington going to have two rock stations that try too hard to be extreme now?

That said, I must say that I appreciate this piece of irony:

Got something to say, but you're too much of a pansy to tell us to our face? Alright slappy, fill out the form below, and we'll get your feedback... then we'll laugh at your flowery skirt, Alice.

;D

Will…. you’re making a difference… you’re touching lives!

hows the new coverage doing?
U was reading on http://fybush.com
The power increase is complete at Steve Silberberg's WLFE (102.3), which has changed city of license from St. Albans to Grand Isle in order to put a much stronger "Rock 102.3" signal over Burlington.

I can't seem to be able to get up to VT to ski right now... My boss in Ct has needed me working Weekends at a deli.. If anyone get the chance, see if it comes in clearly now over sheffield heights on I-91, in the Derby area or on Rt 100 towards Troy and Jay Peak. I'll give a signal report as soon as I am up in that area again. thanks
