WLIR for Sale

With the internet, the station can reach anywhere. Question is if it is sold does the ESPN deal go to?

WLIR should go back to what made it World Famous.

For Sale

We know Long Island’s WLIR, Hampton Bays (107.1) is for sale because…they put an ad in the local paper. Owner Jarad Broadcasting runs an ad with a microphone and headphones, titled “Radio frequency for sale”, and this copy – “WLIR-FM, 107.1 Hampton Bays is being listed for sale by owners Jarad Broadcasting of Hampton Bays. Qualified interested parties should contact [email protected].” That’s going direct, all right.

I think the deal to simulcast ESPN was only for 2 years.
Time is almost up.

If I remember correctly ESPN came to 107.1 in January 2008. I think I heard the flip while driving to Connecticut then.

Hope someone brings back the WLIR format once again. Third time's a charm! If they execute it well, it just might work.

I feel like 107.1 will just become a simulcast of a New York City station. It would be a great place to simulcast WQXR since 105.9 is lost somewhere in Nassau county.

This is the official article from RAMP.

"Want To Live In The Hamptons?

Hey, want to buy a radio station in Long Island's swanky Hamptons-Riverhead, NY market? Even better: It's got the heritage WLIR calls! While the station isn't on the original 92.7 stick from its "Dare to Be Different" heyday, owner Jarad Broadcasting has still retained the calls that are currently parked on 107.1 FM out on Long Island's East End, with the station currently simulcasting Sports WEPN (1050 ESPN)/New York. Weirdly enough, Jarad announced WLIR's sale in a particularly local, old-school style -- they put an ad in the local weekly Hamptons newspaper. A listing in the classifieds section reads "Radio Frequency For Sale: WLIR-FM, 107.1 Hampton Bays, is being listed for sale by owners Jarad Broadcasting of Hampton Bays. Qualified interested parties should contact [email protected]." Interested? Raid your couch cushions and car ashtray for spare change and hit up Jarad today!

Just had a quickie question.

What do you think the new owners would do after the station is sold to them?

Open for discussion.

What they obviously should do is bring back the format that made WLIR World Famous- New Music First. But with the state terrestrial radio is in, who knows whether it will ever come back. One of the huge advantages of sat radio. Larry the Duck is on First Wave 7 days a week.

I'm told they want crazy money for it ($2 million plus). Station is only worth probably $700k at best. They own nothing and virtually all revenue is from the LMA.

107.1's signal is awful, especially now that it is so far west. Unlike the other signals from Manorville, it has no presence in Patchogue or Port Jeff. It also sucks in Southampton and Southold. Basically they are talking to pine trees.

Whomever buys it should put it Southampton on the Cablevision tower on CR39.

AllAccess is reporting that WLIR has been sold. The buyer is said to be Livingstone Broadcasting. I have no clue as to the future format. I could not find out anything about Livingstone online.
The purchase price is said to be $650,000.

The information provided in the article linked in D to the J's post above does point in the direction of religious programming for WLIR, once the deal goes through. Apparently the buyer is an owner of the WLIX FM multicast on 4 low power FM frequencies.
Perhaps WLIR will become another station simulcasting Christian WLIX FM, The Voice of Hope, and the first with a reasonable power output.

Hey Guys:

Speaking of the old WLIR on 92.7 does anybody know when did WLIR 92.7 go from classical/Broadway show tunes to Beautiful Music?
